Unimpressed
I read some great reviews, so I was looking forward to trying Five Front. Although the place is really cute and atmospheric, the brunch was mediocre at best. I could have made my huevos rancheros, and better. Two eggs sitting in a pool of refried beans with a tiny scoop of guacamole on top isn't a deal at $14. Even worse, my friend ordered poached eggs, and one of them was completely cooked through. If you've got eggs benedict on the menu, you need to have someone capable of correctly poaching an egg in the kitchen. And although our server was nice, the coffeemaker was on the fritz, so it took ages to get refills. I won't be going back no matter how pleasant the garden is.

Where is the five front of old?
Five front has always been one of my favorite restaurants through the years. Over the past six months, I have been there three times and each time it has gotten worse. Last night was the coup d'etat. The salad dressing was so oily one could not taste the vinegar; the usually wonderful mussels in curry broth were woefully oversalted; the excellent hamburger requested medium well came to the table medium rare and had to be sent back. To add insult to injury, we were charged an extra $1.50 for a slice of onion on the burger. The bread which used to be wonderful crusty peasant bread, is now fake italian with the softness of wonder bread. The service was excellent as always, but certainly not enough to sustain a trip back. How depressing.

From DC so know crabs too
I read Maryland's review and want to second it, but I'll add that the Crabcakes are better than them served round the beltway. Regardez beer they have rotating micro brews

Favorite Restaurant in Brooklyn
I've been here several times and always had great meals. The last time I had soft shell crabs. They were fabulous and maybe the best I've eaten. As I'm from Maryland that says a lot. Out of my favorite beer last time, but not a major problem. I'll go back next time I'm in Brooklyn.

Subpar service; mediocre (and overpriced) food
Showed up on time for 7:30 reservations on a Saturday evening. There was no hostess in the front to greet us for at least 5 minutes; ended up waiting 20 minutes for an outdoor seat when we asked to be seated inside. Thought a refreshing sauvignon blanc might take the edge off the initial experience, but when it came 10 mins later there were lip gloss stains around the edge of my glass! My husband ordered a medium rare cooked salmon entree with quinoa, and I ordered a medium cooked salmon sandwich. Food was pretty good, aside from the fact that the cook switched the medium and medium rare salmon orders. That was and will be our only time eating there.

not worth it at all
we tried this place during 'dine in brooklyn' week and were very disappointed. we had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, and were then told about every menu item and bar item that they were 'out of' -- by 9pm on a thursday, during restaurant week. the first beer i asked for, they were also out of but hadn't listed. the second beer i asked for they were ALSO out of. it was ridiculous! the service was fairly dismal and they didn't even have more than one option for the dessert course. overall, extremely disappointing.

highly recommended!
This is an intimate restaurant with a superb menu. The shrimp scampi appetizer and sweet potato gnocchi were particularly delicious. The chef came out after our meal to make sure we enjoyed everything, and he seemed to genuinely care about his food and our experience. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!
