    A slice of Italia!

My wife and I recently dined at Firenze were very impressed. The service was amazing - very attentive and gave great advice on the food. We each went with an appetizer and entree - everything we ate was great and reminded us of our trips to Italy. Atmosphere was very nice - once you walk inside the restaurant you feel like you've left the city. If you have a chance to visit do so! Not cheap prices but the food lives up to what you pay!

    Great evening!

We double dated here with friends and had a great meal and a great time. Service was friendly, charming, timely. Food was excellent - 2 chicken dishes, one pasta dish and 1 fish - all delicious. And, I love the decor...very Italy-like. Will go back for sure.

    Saturday disaster

My husband and I have dined here over 20 times during the last year and a half. We are the quiet couple who come in Saturday night. No recognition by the manager/Maitre'd or staff, because we are not memorable by Upper East Side standards. The food is usually good, and I enjoy the charming, romantic quiet laid back atmosphere, great for Saturday Date Night. Last night dining at Firenze was a DISASTER. We arrived 5 minutes early, and were coralled into their small bar/foyer area which was littered with glasses, bottles and napkins. There were 2 parties of 4, and 1 party of 10 ahead of us. A group of 10 in a small romantic restaurant??? They did not initially acknowledge us, as one party of 4 decided to leave, as their wait was too long, they were begging them stay, that their table availability was imminent. They left, I thought the maitre'd was going to cry. Next, the party of 10 were seated. The maitre'd offered drinks to the remaining party of 4 as they were still waiting. WE were invisible to him. We were pushed against the bar, if you have been to Firenze, then you know it is a very small area as the group of 10 re-entered the foyer area, rejecting their table. So far, no one took our name, asked about our reservation, we honestly felt that Firenze wanted us to leave so they could concentrate on accommodating the larger parties. Twenty minutes later, we were seated at the table in front of the silverware and plates. Not a table worth waiting for. The waiter immediately started shouting the specials, I asked if we could have drinks first. And he left us, my husband smiled, and I said, that the waiter didn't ask us what we wanted to drink.......he left to take care of another table..........and that is how the evening went. No peaceful, low key dining experience with good service. My antipasto was tasteless, but all other items were tasty. I am not sure I will return, as paying close to $200, to be ignored, aggravated and shouted at doesn't make sense........

I went here on a whim with my girlfriend not expecting much. We purchased a coupon on Living Social that needed to be used before expiration. Food was very good, service was well above average, and ambiance was very romantic. We were both very pleasantly surprised and will surely return. They really seemed to care and went the extra mile to make sure we were well taken care of. We even were given some nice after dinner cocktails on the house. All in all, the prices were pretty reasonable considering the quality of the food and level of service. I really feel for all these restaurants on 2nd Ave that are shutting down due the the east side subway construction. It's incredibly hard for a NYC restaurant without obstacles like that. I hope that this place makes it because it is truly a gem and we will absolutely be returning.

    Disappointing

Very slow service. Staff seemed very unhappy and like they were going through the motions. Dinner entrees were drenched in olive oil and butter. Expected more.

    Diamond in the rough

If you want amazing Italian food with a really impressive atmosphere, then you have to go to Firenze. You wouldn't know it at first because it is very unassuming, but this really is a hidden upper east side treasure. I've walked by the place a thousand times and never once thought to stop in. I finally did last winter and was totally blown away. The food is amazing, the service is top notch, and it's all reasonably priced (perhaps a bit pricy, but you definitely get what you pay for, and it's worth it). Its the little things that impressed me, like never having to ask for more water, or feeling rushed to leave after the meal is over. The even give you complimentary lemon chello or amaretto to go with the complimentary biscotti. I went back last night and had the same experience I had last winter. I'll definitely be back again.
