I live in the neighborhood and have gone to Finnegan's Wake at least a couple of times a month for about 10 years. It has always been a friendly, welcoming sort of neighborhood spot with usually better-than-decent food. However, I recently had a terrible experience there, and am not sure I will be back. Due to a recent accident, I have a broken knee and wrist. I arrived very early (6:00) for dinner with a friend and we asked for a table with 3 chairs so that one could accommodate my injury. Despite the fact that there were only 2 other tables in use, the older gentleman (who appeared to be the manager) seemed really put out, but ultimately agreed to seat us at a 4-top. In fairness, we did tell him that we wouldn't be there all night (though on a Monday night, it didn't appear that it would be an issue). That said, service was quite slow, so we weren't entirely in control over how long it took us to eat dinner. One hour and fifteen minutes later - and in the middle of enjoying the last of our drinks - he told us that a larger party would be coming in and he needed our table. Helpfully, he reminded us of our promise not stay all night! It was still early in the evening, and there were maybe 4 tables being occupied at this point, and the party wasn't even there, so why the rude rush??? And aren't there better ways to get us to leave a table? Offer to buy us a drink at the bar, or move us to a different table, for goodness sakes! I eat out 4-5 nights a week, so I get that restaurants need to turn tables to stay in business. However, (i) we hadn't been there an extraordinarily long time in the first place, and (ii) there are more gracious ways to ask people to give up the table (though, in this case, they didn't even need the table yet!!!). I can't even remember that last time I was treated so rudely. Seriously. I always liked this place, but I don't think I will patronizing it again. I will have to find a new neighborhood spot.

The only place in the world I'll eat French fries. Never greasy, soggy, or over cooked. The only place in the world I'll eat hamburgers. Pure, high quality Angus beef. The only place I know where when I ask for rare, whether hamburger or steak, I can trust it to be really rare. In addition to that, it is the sort of place where customers keep coming back, and walking in, it feels like coming to a family reunion of sorts. The owner as well as staff great you with warmth, and you can not to familiar faces all over the place. My favorite place after 33 years of going there regularly. Oh, did I say the wine is poured generously! Who could ask for anything more?

Visited this restaurant with very particular diners. My entire group including myself thought the food was superb. Incidentally price was very reasonable for Manhattan.

Any time we are in NYC we stop at Finnegan's Wake. Staff and owner are always pleasant and courteous. Food is great and is a great value as well. As long as they are there, we'll keep coming back!

Every neighborhood should have a restaurant like this one. Fresh food, reasonably prepared and at a reasonable price. Efficient, polite staff and a concerned owner. Excellent steaks for the price and good specials.
