Best Pub Food Around!
I'm reluctant to call this bar food, because it's really not. So I'll say that it's Pub/Inn food, because when you walk in, you almost feel like you're coming in from the cold of the Irish countryside, greeted at the door by a friendly face and the aroma of delicious food. This place has really great food and the menu specials change often, but pretty much stay in the same type of range. Lamb, chicken and other hearty foods are available and it's a no brainer spot in the wintertime. I love it, but it's not exactly "current", I guess is the word. Most of the patrons tend to be the older folks, who wants warm, hearty neighborhood fare without too much deviation from what they're used to. To me that is fine because when I eat here, it's like being home. Highly Recommended!

best on ues
Beef I love, and their beefeater is the best. Fish is always fresh. Staff are good looking and friendly and attentive.good selection of draft, and always cold. A lot of old money, and the occasional celeb.

Best basic food, service, and value in NYC
We've been coming here for about 30 years, almost since its opening. The steaks, hamburgers, specials, and salads are delicious and cooked just as requested. The owner treats every customer as a valued 'member of the family'. Elderly customers are treated with extra consideration and cabs are even hailed for them by the staff. The waitresses are courteous, friendly, and even remember the usual orders of the 'regulars'. The atmosphere is relaxing and unpretentious. This is our favorite place to dine on a regular basis, and we often drive in from Staten Island to enjoy a low stress evening and a nice, reasonably priced meal.

Have Patience
Food and drinks are worth it. Best value for a night out in most of the neighborhood. Good meat and potatoes. I think they make a nice effort to make you happy and service you with a decent meal.

Food Good, Service Bad
Agree with last reviewer, my husband and I live in the area and have been coming to Finnegan's for years b/c reliable, good bar food. The wait staff is just downright rude. On a recent evening with many empty tables of four, let us stand and wait twenty minutes for a table of two to open up - only to be forgotten about. When we went to walk out waitress - commented annoyingly well just sit anywhere. We haven't been back since. Too bad, really like their martinis and burgers.

OMG, What Happened!
My husband and I have been going to the Wake for over 23 years, and lately the waiting staff has been so terrible as far as service and lip towards the customer. Forget about them appreciating loyalty by the customer. One complaint about the way the food is cooked and you are blacklisted. We always have ordered the most expensive item on the menu as well as the higher priced cocktails. They are quick to turn their back on you if you have one complaint. In their eyes the customer is wrong but the restaurant is always right. You can take your business elsewhere is their motto. We have had it with the horrendous attitudes of the staff here, and in this falling economy have decided to eat elsewhere.
