great food, good price ok atmosphere
I loved the food! If your looking for a great romantic place this might not be the #1 spot but it's worth checking out. The duck was delicious...

Worth the sweat
Looking down the reviews posted so far for Fatty Crab, I was astonished at the number of complaints: bad service, small portions, poor food, etc. The only complaint which rings true, from my experience there last night, had to do with the atmosphere. It is indeed crowded and noisy, and the lack of AC during a warm/hot evening (last night was in the low 80s) is slightly problematic. But the food is absolutely superb: innovative and fabulously seasoned. The fatty tea sandwiches were terrific, and the use of plain old American white bread actually added an interesting sweet note to the spicy aioli sambal on the pork belly. Both the malay fish fry and the crispy duck were excellent and, as one or two other reviewers pointed out, perfect for sharing: two appetizers and two entrees were just the right amount for me and my dining companion. Our waiter was completely attentive and -- due to the restaurant's small size -- other waiters were always available to pour wine if he was busy. Ignore the negative observations and give it a try!

Time to Invest in an Air Conditioner!
If you like sub par food at unreasonable prices all while sweating over your food, Fatty Crab is the place for you!

Just another disappointment
I really don't know why this place get great reviews...I went for dinner today with my date and had a just ok fish fry appetizer, two mini burguers that were really bland and could be those you get at any diner..the skate dish was very good, a little overcooked but we thought the flavors were well balanced and overall good. the atmosphere is terrible is too noisy and crowded. Our server kept saying that we haven't ordered enough food for two but he forgot our wine order twice. The fatty sling cocktail I had was good but didn't make up for the 13 dollars they charged me for it. Other great disappointment was that they don't serve desserts?! I understand that it's a very small place and they sure do this to keep a high table turnaround but...C'mon! at least serve a sorbet. I got home really hungry after having spent 125 dollars for a dinner for two and I'm sure not coming back here again...good luck...You'll need it when the fuzz goes away.

Fat-So
After hearing so much about Fatty Crab, I went out of my way last night to dine there. It was early and there was a table available right away, although I hear that it can get crowded and no reservations are taken. I could not figure out what all the buzz was about over this place. It was very warm (a/c was not on) and that set a tone which went downhill from then on. I ordered the spare ribs and the portion was small. And, at $22, it was very fatty (I guess keeping in name with the restaurant) the portion that was edible made it even smaller. Very spicy, too. $14 for a martini in a "bar" like this was overpriced, also. Won't go back, no matter how "fat the crab" is.

so much fun
the place was packed when we went, and we had to wait 10 minutes, mostly on a slow table that just wouldn't leave. It was worth the wait, we were a table of nine whic is big for the Fatty Crab. We were a tight fit but it was a blast, the food was delicious I reccomend the fatty duck and the crispy pork and watermelon salad. the music was going and the service was great. Everything was just fun and delicious, plus the food came out fast!!

What a fun place to eat!
Fatty Crab is a great place to go if your looking for a fun tapas style restaurant. The food is unique and inventive. I have tried many other malay restaurants and this one is by far the best! The music is loud and the staff seems cool and down to earth. The only thing I would say is to not go with more than 4 people, or you could possibly experience a really long wait, although its worth it! The restaurant is only about 40 seats. I hope they open a larger one closer to my apt!!!
