For the foodie and food explorer

Fatty Crab is unique, finding words to say otherwise is difficult. The food quality is just fantastic, but you need to be wiling to enjoy all of your senses when you're eating with them. If you ever watched Iron Chef and enjoy when the judges enjoy the texture of the food, Fatty Crab will be nothing short of heaven for you. The spice is authentic for southest asia, that does not mean it its fully into your palate. It it's new for you, dive deeper because there is an entire world for you to explore and FC will bring you there. From smooth and sensual lipid textures to garnishes of salted dried prawn (kering), it's a journey from one side of the dish to the other. My absolute favorites are on the app menu - the veggie buns and the sliders. I can swim in those sliders. We eat in and also order on take away as it is near where I live. It is not a date for a date, it's a loud, energetic and tight. Sort of like a market spot in Malaysia actually...

Not sure what all the hype is about

The food here was not good. I eat everything, and it doesn't take THAT much to make me happy when it comes to eating out, but this place was unappealing to every person I was sitting with. The mango salad was so spicy I couldn't taste anything for about 5 minutes after I took a bite of it...and I can handle spicy food. The pork buns were OKAY, but the first bite I took was into a huge piece of fat. Mussles were good but sauce was a bomb. Noodle dish had waaaay too much thick sauce. And the chili crab??? I didn't know putting peanut butter in a bowl with a big crab was supposed to be enjoyable. The crab MAY have been good if the sauce wasn't ALL over it, but it was, and it killed the crab taste. In the end, our bill was $200 for 4 ppl to go home with stomach aches until the next day.

    What's everyone complaining about?

I'm not sure what these people on here are complaining about. I frequent Fatty Crab on a very regular basis and each time I'm very pleased. • Music, yes sometimes can be kinda loud - but that's their thing. The later in the night the louder it is. • Portion sizes/price. Again not sure what people are complaining about. For $30 you can get a starter, an entree and a side... that's pretty decent and be full. Yes the crab costs more. So does the porterhouse at a steak place. • Food - someone complained the "FATTY DUCK" was too fatty. READ. Someone on here complained about the sliders - they were written up by the NY Times as one of the best in the city. Perhaps there are people that just have a personal issue with the place but I personally love all of these. Read the menu and ask the server and you'll know EXACTLY what you're getting. Its pretty simple people. • Service - again I've never had issues. Always get a friendly hipster waiter who knows everything about the food and gives excellent recommendations. Occasionally I get a complimentary amuse. If you're friendly to them, they have always been friendly to me. I'm sure if you go in being a jerk they won't be pleasant to you. And the last thing, about being rushed out. I haven't necessarily felt rushed out, but at the same time, I have looked around at 8pm on a Friday night and see there are 10-15 people waiting to eat in this tiny restaurant. Being a conscientious person to other diners, I get up when I'm finished. I suppose if you sit there and linger when you're done with dinner and not ordering anything anymore they may get annoyed. So don't. Go for a great dinner and then go continue your night at another bar or whatever. I love this restaurant. The food, the people, the space, the vibe. There is a reason that people wait over an hour for the food -because its unique and excellent.

    are you done yet?

Don't come here for dinner and expect to talk with friends. The music was unbearably loud, the service very rushed and the food was not good and expensive. The duck breast was fat and bone. The sliders were below par. The fish fry was meagre. We enjoyed the UWS, but would NEVER return here! We should have walked when we heard the "music" and got the bum rush from the waitress. I cannot warn the wary enough. Stay away unless your are very young, mindless and just want to drink. We are even wary of returning to the UWS location after this. $160 for 4 for four glasses of wine and very little subpar food.

Really? $45 for a few crab legs? Really?

What a tremendous dissapointment. Their favorite ingredient is salt -- I got the spicy crab and I couldn't get through it - a few crab legs in a sloppy, salty curry sauce and some Texas toast -- for $45?? Utterly disappointing and majorly overpriced. The best part was the bread, but I couldn't enjoy dipping it in the sauce, my throat burned from sodium. The soup with the chinese sausage was also saltier than it needed to be. Would never go back.

    Force Fed!

At the new UWS branch, our waitress told us to order 6 dishes for 3 people. We ordered 3 plus a side of kang kong and she said it wasn't enough, so we ordered a 4th. It was way too much food. PLUS the waitress refilled our wine glasses each time we took a sip, even after we asked her not to. The big push to eat and drink a lot plus being rushed out after our food was delivered added up to a huge turnoff. I won't go back, even though the food was pretty good but uneven.
