good!
While it's true that this is not the most authentic Malasian food in NY, it is very good. I've been here a few times now, and I've found that the small plates are all well-prepared and tasty, and the fish is especially good. It is a little pricey, but that can be said of pretty much anything in the city. I'd definitely recommend for a fun and low-key lunch or dinner.

Great overall experience
Went on a friday night with my wife. I didnt really know what to expect. Really lively and fun. One of the best meals we have had in a while. You have to try the watermelon and pork! Service is very friendly and unpretentious. Just a really unique overall experience and great addition to the neighborhood.

I don't get it
There's some serious slacking off here. I think they're counting on the fact that most people don't know what Malaysian food is. I can tell you it's not this. What a disappointment.

A major disappointment
The first time a friend & I had dinner at Fatty's, we had an excellent (although pricey) meal. A shared sandwich appetizer was flavorful & quite good. The chicken dish was beautifully spiced & literally "falling off the bone"; my duck was also excellent. Don't bother with the exotic drinks -- go straight for the beers (even though we felt they were over-priced for small bottles); beer is a perfect match for this type of food. The second time a friend & I went for dinner, it was as if we were eating at a totally different restaurant. An "entre" of coconut shrimp consisted of 3 almost raw shrimp in a coconut sauce with a bowl of rice. My dish, which the server claimed was one of his favorites, was entitled pickled watermelon with crispy pork, and featured 6 or 8 small squares of red watermelon with maybe 6 pieces of pork fat bookcased with thin, hard & chewy fried meat. Since I was too busy at work to have lunch, I was too hungry to send this dish back & wait for a substitute. Wish I had. If we had followed the server's recommendation that we order 5 - 6 dishes to share, our bill would have been over $100 for so-called street food on a Wednesday evening. Price to value ratio is too high.

A disappointment
After reading raves about Fatty Crab in the meatpacking district I couldn't wait to try the uptown branch. What a disappointment. My friend and I sent most of the food back uneaten. Granted, we went for lunch: maybe it's better at dinner.

Best Malay food on the West Side
I have now been to Fatty Crab three times and each time it has been better than the last. The service is excellent and the waiters are very knowledgable about the dishes and ingredients. The crab might not be worth it, but the other dishes more than make up for it. Especially the chineese broccoli and the pepper mussels. I first went to this restaurant at its location on hudson street, and when I heard it was coming to a location much closer to my home I was thrilled. Definately reccomended to all.

Go For Pizza
My friend and I were eager to try this new addition to the neighbor. Having walked by several times finding tables filled, we looked forward to experiencing a delicious meal. What a let down! It's another way too loud, trying too hard restaurant with over priced, sub-par food. Cross it off your list and go for pizza!
