    The best restaurant in town

Boulibase dish was excellent. The oysters were fresh and the New England Clam Chowder was the best. I tried many places, but I think I found it. Very reasonably priced, etc.

    Dinner 7/26/11

Dinner consisted of broiled seafood platter, shrimp Alfredo, & steak & shrimp off the special board. Starters were caesar salad & oysters Rockefeller both were good! Dinner options were not explained steak & shrimp on the special board were served on rice when potato was expected, steak was fatty and over cooked. 4 shrimp were in the shrimp Alfredo & broiled seafood platter was good. Service was very distressing spilling food on our daughter.

    I love this place!

My family and I visit The Famous Oyster Bar every year whenever we all come together. The homey atmosphere of the restaurant makes it an excellent place for us to just sit back, relax and enjoy each others company. The location is right off the busy streets of New York, and the food is delicious, especially my favorite dish, lobster ravioli. Everyone in my family loves the Surf and Turf, so if you ever drop by and don't know what to order, this dosh is highly recommended. The filet mignon is tender and juicy, and the crab tail adds to the flavor of the meal. Definitely a place to drop by to have a nice meal after a busy day touring the streets of NY!

    Nice soft crabs, bad sauce

Being from the East Coast and now trapped in the Midwest, I know good seafood, know how to prepare it, and have been woefully missing it. I was delighted to see soft crabs available as they are my absolute favorite and I had not had them for awhile. The menu offered them sauteed or fried. I ordered them sauteed. When they arrived at the table there were three nice sized ones on the platter, but they were drowned in an overwhelming lemon sauce which had an off taste. The menu mentioned nothing about a sauce, and if it had I would have asked for it on the side. The sauce ruined the meal.- It had a fake lemon flavor and was very strong. If I return, I will tell them no sauce.

    NOT an Oyster Bar

There's no bar, and only tiny blue points. I agree with Dibob below - I like Old NY but wish this place would try harder. A plus is that it is quiet with no background music.

    Overpriced - low quality everything.

Very overpriced. And for the prices they charge, you'd think they'd reprint new menus rather than using white out on old stained menus. My friend's entree, the fisherman's platter, came with more potato salad than anything, a plastic to-go cup of cocktail sauce, and they didn't separate the oyster or clam from it's shell. The waitress didn't give us water or put our white wine on ice until we asked for it. The lights were turned down so low they were almost off. This happened after we had just sat. We thought they were closing and giving us a not-so-subtle clue to leave. When we did leave, we looked at the place from across the street and it looked closed - I guess that's why there were never more than 4 customers (including the two of us) when we were there. It didn't help that the neon sign was only half working. My swordfish with cumin vinaigrette tasted a little old and/or frozen and was overcooked. While this place has been around for a long time, the prices do not match the quality. There are plenty of restaurants with similar menus and prices that have a better atmosphere, food quality, and service. I'm sad to say this about an established restaurant... but skip it. Anyone who charges these prices for mediocrity and puts plastic cups on an overpriced entree plate deserves to be looked over in favor of other, and better, restaurants.

    Dissapointed

I have eaten in this restaurant on a few occasions and have always enjoyed the food here. I ate there recently ( June 2009 ) and was very disappointed. I ordered the Surf & Turf ( Filet Mignion & Lobster Tail ) and was extremely disappointed. The steak was not FIlet Mignion and the lobster was dry and flaky. Considering they are a seafood & oyster bar that is appalling. What was once a great place has really fallen. You can't fault the attentiveness and attitude of the staff, but the food has gone really bad and is not worht the price that they sell it at
