Famous Oyster Bar

We had a very poor experience at The Famous Oyster Bar. My mother and I are visiting NY and we were very excited to have the lobster dinner special. The service was poor and the lobster was overcooked. I would have mentioned it to my server if he would have checked on us even once. We had to flag down another server just as she looked up from looking at Facebook on her phone to bring us the water and lemons we asked for but never received. When it came time for the check our server looked over at us and then walked out on the street and left the restaurant. We then had to flag down other staff yet again to get our check. We were expecting a nice dinner and were extremely disappointed. I don't believe in leaving servers less than 20% ( I often leave more) but this time I made an exception.

After entering The Famous Oyster Bar, we were a bit apprehensive. The dining area was dimly lit and the decor appeared quite dated. Nonetheless, we were pleasantly greeted and promptly seated, and so ordered from the lunch menu. I had read from other reviews that the service was slow, and so I expected as much from my visit. However, we received our order within about twenty minutes of ordering. And, to our delight, the food was nicely prepared and presented, and, best of all, tasted great. And all was very reasonably priced, particularly for Manhattan standards.

They had the lobster special so my wife and mother in law chose the place. My mother in law got a good size and my wife got what was left. My linguine with clams was unappetizing. The service was poor (the wait was over an hour for our food) and the usual customers get special treatment (free dessert) that we did not get offered. I defintely will not be coming back to this place.

Boulibase dish was excellent. The oysters were fresh and the New England Clam Chowder was the best. I tried many places, but I think I found it. Very reasonably priced, etc.

Dinner consisted of broiled seafood platter, shrimp Alfredo, & steak & shrimp off the special board. Starters were caesar salad & oysters Rockefeller both were good! Dinner options were not explained steak & shrimp on the special board were served on rice when potato was expected, steak was fatty and over cooked. 4 shrimp were in the shrimp Alfredo & broiled seafood platter was good. Service was very distressing spilling food on our daughter.

My family and I visit The Famous Oyster Bar every year whenever we all come together. The homey atmosphere of the restaurant makes it an excellent place for us to just sit back, relax and enjoy each others company. The location is right off the busy streets of New York, and the food is delicious, especially my favorite dish, lobster ravioli. Everyone in my family loves the Surf and Turf, so if you ever drop by and don't know what to order, this dosh is highly recommended. The filet mignon is tender and juicy, and the crab tail adds to the flavor of the meal. Definitely a place to drop by to have a nice meal after a busy day touring the streets of NY!

Being from the East Coast and now trapped in the Midwest, I know good seafood, know how to prepare it, and have been woefully missing it. I was delighted to see soft crabs available as they are my absolute favorite and I had not had them for awhile. The menu offered them sauteed or fried. I ordered them sauteed. When they arrived at the table there were three nice sized ones on the platter, but they were drowned in an overwhelming lemon sauce which had an off taste. The menu mentioned nothing about a sauce, and if it had I would have asked for it on the side. The sauce ruined the meal.- It had a fake lemon flavor and was very strong. If I return, I will tell them no sauce.
