    Disappointed

This was the second time I ate at the Fagiolini on 40th Street. The first time I ate with a colleaque for lunch and I liked the restaurant. Last saturday night I ate dinner here with a friend. I made a reservation about 45 minutes prior. When we got to the restaurant, no one greeted us. A waiter eventually gave us a table. The wait staff was under staffed. At most, I saw three waiters. I asked for butter with our bread. The waiter didn't know if they had any and I never got the butter. When our orders arrived, my order was wrong. When I got my order (Penne Amatriciana with Sausage), it was more like Penne Bolognese. I could not determine if it was sausage or not because the pieces were so tiny. My friend had Angel Hair with Clams. He complained to me that the sauce was watery. I thought the service was terrible. Not a manger or hostess in sight. It's a nice little restaurant with nice ambiance. But, our meal was very disappointing that night.

Called here as it was highly praised by a guest in our hotel and boy was I sorry I did. Asked for a pizza without cheese and was told it could not be done, I reckon this just highlights how unfresh they must be or that they are not homemade. Ended up with mushroom chicken which consisted of boiled chicken covered in a mucky looking sauce. My husband who would eat pretty much anything could not eat his meatloaf which yet again looked bad on the plate, a slab of brown meat covered in brown sauce. Both dishes were served with string beans, carrot and a small potato thing, which was prob the best thing served on the night. Service also left a bit to be desired, some what rude and abrasive. My advise avoid like the plague

    Great experience

We were here for the time tonight and were pleasantly surprised. My partner had Pollo All'ortolano and she found the sauce to be light and flavorful and the chicken to be very tasty. I had spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce was also mild and tasty and the meatballs were good. It was also unusual to have a house salad included with an entree and that was nice. The service was also good with friendly waiters who regularly filled up our water. We will definitely return and strongly recommend this place.

    Crowded but Great Food

I go to Fagiolini's when I'm in the neighborhood, about once a month. The tables downstairs are quite close together so it feels like you're having dinner with everyone. (I don't know what the upstairs is like.) They could use another waitperson. BUT...the food is wonderful. I usually get the chicken with spinach in a nice white wine sauce. Reasonably priced for the area. Dinner comes with a nice salad although whoever puts the dressing on is a bit heavy-handed with the vinegar. The desserts are WONDERFUL!! I recommend you try it.

The food here was not good at all. The house "salad" was some iceburg lettuce, a piece of tomato that was not ripe and some shredded carrots drowing in vinegar and a drop of oil. Appetizer of minestrone soup was fair at best. Their so called special, penne ala vodka with seared chicken was certainly NOT homemade pasta, it came out of a box. The sauce was watery, and the chicken was dry and flavorless. These were the highlights of the meal... One of the people at dinner with me ordered a meal with grilled chicken that she could not even finish. Combine that with a poorly air conditioned downstairs and you can imagine the quality of the night. I cannot comment on dessert because we all ran out of there once the check came. A local takeout joint would be a huge upgrade over here!

    Great local spot!

I've gone to this place for years and never had a bad time. It atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. I find the staff helpful and they do not rush anyone. A bonus is the excellent value, including the wines! There are very few places you are able to find a $20-25 bottle of wine that you will like, but i have here. The pasta with clam sauce is great and so is the cheesecake. the only thing they could work on is getting more apps.

    Great food!

The food is delicious! Service was so/so, but I'd go back for the pasta and the ricotta cheesecake!
