Some consolation from prior review
If you happened to read my review on Oct 8, I can happily say the owner did respond to my letter by calling me a week or so ago. He let me know that the waiter from our previous visit was forced to pay for my meal completely. He (the owner, not the waiter) also apologized and send me a gift certificate as well. So I at least someone is accountable which is truly appreciated...thank you, Ethos!

Food a + but service-big thumbs down!
My boyfriend and I tried this place on Sept 18 after hearing good reviews from friends and decided to try it before catching a movie at Kips Bay nearby. Positives: 1. Hostess - extremely attentive and aware of tables opening up and waiting times would reassure you which table she was intending for you was warm and smiled 2. Water fillers - This may not be consistent every night but on the Thursday night we went, they were great, filling up our glasses even when they were half full also polite and not overly hasty 3. General decor - Visiting Greece for 2 weeks 2 years ago, this place wasn't exact but not bad for what they were trying to do 4. Food - Good food, not expensive compared to its competition in the city, and decent portions Negatives: 1. Waiter and Dinner Service - From the get-go, our waiter he was very standoffish, didn't introduce himself, didn't welcome us to the restaurant, didn't even smile and gave us the impression we were somehow in his way. When he came to get our drink order, he said something like, "What you want to drink?" Then someone else gave us our wine which were not generous glasses. He came back for our meal orders and asked similarly "What you eat?". I can't remember exactly what I ordered but it wasn't available. So I asked him to recommend something. He immediately pointed to the most expensive item, which I wasn't in the mood for. Then he picked the next expensive item, to which I agreed. And that was the last of him until he gave us our bill. Our meal took a long time to arrive and when mine did, it was cold and I had to hail someone down to take it back and heat it up. We had wanted another round of wine but no one came to ask us how our meal was, if we needed anything, or even if we wanted dessert. We left no tip for less than minimal service from our waiter. I usually give something but he wasn't even nice and made our meal experience simply horrible. Bill - To top it off, when I got my credit card bill, he had added his own 20% gratuity to the bill. I have disputed the charge and even wrote the owner a letter about it but have heard nothing back from the restaurant.

Too bad the service stinks
Food is pretty good, decent atmosphere, but the service is positively atrocious. My friend ordered a second glass of wine before our meal ever came, and the wine only showed up after we had been finished with dinner for a few minutes so we obviously told them it was too late. Our water glasses sat empty and we had to ask for them to be refilled the waiter never once checked in on us once our food was finally delivered. Once we asked for the bill 3 times, it came and they charged us for 2 extra glasses of wine, and it took an eternity to get it sorted out. Our waiter must have gotten off his shift while we were there, b/c we never even saw him to ask him for the bill or anything, so we were left chasing down anyone we could find as they scurried by to get our bill. If they could get their act together, it could be a decent place. But since I've been there 5 times now, that doesn't seem likely.

Good experience all around.
Had a reservation, table was ready, we ate early though, 6:30, by the time we left 2 hrs later, there was a line for tables. All food ordered was very tasty, good value for what we ordered (3 of us, sharing apps. & entrees). complimentary desert at the end excellent indeed. Would def. go back!.

So good, what a surprise
My friends and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. We had reservations but still had to wait for our table. However, the staff was very nice and gave us mini glasses of wine while we waited, on the house. The food came out very fast, all yummy. The lemon potatoes they served with my fish were the best potatoes I have EVER had in my life. Drinks came out super fast, we received a free dessert "just because"....all around excellent experience. I cannot wait to go back.

The best Greek food !
I was really hungry for lamb chops and what a treat Ethos was. From one of the best Greek salads to the BEST lamb chops I have ever had,to the wonderful deserts. The service was great, loved the open air dining available. You could recommend this restaurant to anyone. The owner greeted our table to see how everything was. I can't wait to come back.

Excellent!
If you're looking for terrific Greek food and attentive service, Ethos is the place for you. My friend and I started with the Taramosalata which was simply amazing. The portion was large but it was gone very quickly. We followed that with Kalamari Yemisto, Spanakopita and Moussaka, all were delicious, but the Moussaka was outstanding. So rich and flavorful. The only issues I had with Ethos were the music and the table placement. The tables are a bit too close together, and a table for two seems more like a table for four because the next couple is so close. Then there's the music. I can't tell you if the choice of music was bad because it was impossible to figure out the songs. All you can hear is the bass in most cases because the noise of the crowd drowns out the lyrics leaving only a thumping, mind numbing sound that does little to aid digestion. One other warning. If you're over 30, prepare to deal with the throngs of Millennials who stand outside of the bars which bookend Ethos. These Red-Bull drinking freaks seem content to stand in the street for hours talking about their MySpace pages and mobile phone functionality. My advice, J-walk. The second you leave Ethos head directly across the street.
