Feels like you are in Greece @ this gem

My friend suggested this restaurant after reading the reviews on this page, and we had a wonderful experience and now go back every week or two. Ambiance ( you really feel like you are in Greece and importantly, it is not too noisy) and service is great (we even receive free dessert everytime we come) and the food is FABULOUS, with good size portions and reasonable prices. Highly recommend the artichoke appetizer (more like a salad), the warm cheese cooked w/ peppers and tomatoes, as well as the seafood skewers! Great for a group and romantic enough for a date!

Fresh fish in yown, no lie

I came to NYC often and usually end up in 5 star restaurants such as Per Se, Masa with my husband. My daughter just moved here as a graduate student and we walked into Ethos one night. The owner was so gracious and welcoming even when we asked to wait for a 4-person street side table for 2 of us. We had grilled octopus, greek salad, grilled orata, a mediterian white fleshed fish, all were great, fresh and wekk prepared. Needless to say, we returned 5 days later and requested the street side table again. We tried grilled squid, moussaka and grilled orata again. Delicious. We loved the owner so much so that we bought him a drink. If I lived in NYC, I would definitely make Ethos one of my favorite spot for dinner. Lucky daughter of mine though. .

    Wow! Dancing Tastebuds

I went to the restaurant based on the reviews here. WOW! Visiting NYC with a friend from out of town, he requested Greek. After a few Google inquiries, I made reservations at Ethos. It was a perfect New York evening. Warm with a cool breeze. There was a door open that allowed the breeze to billow into the restaurant. We were greeted and seated promptly . The menu was extensive. True Greek dishes. Names I could not pronounce. Our waiter was attentive (and good looking). After much deliberation we ordered appetizer and entres (one veal and one seafood with the promise to share our meals). Hot fresh bread (pita and a thick crusty bread) was brought to the table. The olive oil was rich and smooth. I would have been happy with just the bread and oil. Appetizer was mouth watering. Squid stuffed with Greek cheeses. It was so authentic. Dinner came. I got veal in a clay pot. My dinner partner got shrimp in a floral tomato sauce. I did not share. My dish was so good, I only gave him a fork full and guarded my meal against his persistent requests for "just one more taste". Service was perfect. Food was terrific. I would recommend this restaurant to ANY one in search of great Greek cuisine!

    Almost the best

This restaurant serves really good food, and the portions are generous. We actually ordered four appetizers for two + a main course, and luckily, they forgot one of the appetizers! The service is nice, although there's room for improvement. It takes the waiters time to fill up your water, or to show up when you need something. It's also a bit compact, but that's expected in NY. Overall a very good experience, worth every penny.

    Simon Says :)

Whenever I feel down, working hard in the office, I imagine the beauty of Ancient Griece, the magical charm of Athens. That is when I dial Ethos, for it is the closest thing to this quick enigmatic getaway. Often spoil myself with the freshness of the Elliniki salad or soft sting of the spicy lamb soulivaki. Highly recommend!

    Would not recommend

I went based solely on the reviews here at MenuPages. Perhaps I hit them on a bad day but I was not at all impressed. First of all we came in for an early dinner about 7:00pm and were the first people in the restaurant. We were seated promptly but, with no-one else in the restaurant, it still took them about 10 to 15 mins to take our order. The food came quickly enough but was more or less dumped on the table as the waiter was on his way to greet another guest. My husband had to practically tackle the waiter to get dessert menus and when we were ready to order the dessert the waiter stood over by the bar doing nothing and ignoring us. My husband's expression must have said it all because when we refused any dessert the waiter brought us something on the house. Then yet another 10 minute wait to get the bill. So although the food was okay the whole experience was not satisfying and certainly not worth the money.

The best authentic Greek food in NYC

Ethos was recommended by a friend who knew I only go to the best restaurants and would not chance it with me. And she was right, Ethos is the best finding this year for casual dinning with an ethnic flavor. The food is authentically Greek with a refined touch to it. Everything we ordered was finger licking good. The cheese platter and the appetizers are very generous and we ordered an assortment of them to shared, all were delicious. The grilled fish was so fresh and so perfectly cooked I felt, I just had to close my eyes to be back on my Greek vacation. The baklava is so good I could not resist and the Greek coffee was sweet as ordered. The atmosphere has a nice warm, homey feel and the manager did everything to accommodate our requests. Since then, I have been back many times and tried other dishes, the Lamb dishes and the salads and enjoyed every time the experience. I now take my friends there and tell everyone who is looking for authentic well priced Greek food in the city to go there. It is the best Greek restaurant in Manhattan...and I tried them all.
