    Excellent food

My husband and I had dinner here yesterday for my birthday. I had the Shredded Cripsy Beef and my husband had Mai Fun Har Moon Style noodles. We both LOVED our dishes. Wait time for our food was minimal and the waiter kept coming to refill our water glasses. Great food, great service.

    Mediocre beyond words

Based on a recommendation, I sought out this restaurant for dinner. I knew I had made a mistake as soon as I read the unimaginative menu. However, I made what I thought were the best choices. In the meantime, a limp cabbage and pickled vegetable appetizer was placed on the table. For over $36 (for one sushi roll and an oily portobello lomein), I was served a meal that not only did not include the ingredients listed on the menu, but turned out to be the most mediocre and overpriced food I've eaten in a long time. Although I left it all, there was no question from the waiter as to what the problem might be. I paid and left, annoyed with myself for not having said anything. I am saying it now. They will never see me again and I will never again believe the person who made the recommendation.

    I liked it

Despite the many bad reviews, I went to Estihana last night and enjoyed it. Our food came quickly and was obviously fresh. The sushi was good and we all loved our dishes.

    Disappointed

I write reviews when I am very happy or very disappointed with the restaurant. Unfortunately, Estihana falls in the latter category. My husband and I ate there on a Tuesday night. There were a few other couples seated, and plenty of empty tables. The waiter seated us directly behind another couple, and when I asked if we could sit at a different table, he said no, because a party of 4 might come in (there were several other tables for parties of 4). I then requested to sit at a different table for 2 so that we weren't effectively on a double-date with this other couple, and the waiter reluctantly agreed. I found that to be unnecessarily difficult and indicated that they aren't particularly interested in customer service. My husband's cooked dish was served about 10 minutes before the first of my two sushi rolls were brought to the table, despite the fact that the place was relatively empty. I had watched the sushi chefs stand around, and they basically didn't start making my rolls until my husband's food was served. As we stared at our food, we both felt that we had received the old bait and switch. My sushi rolls were fairly tasteless; the rice was dried out, and there was barely any fish inside them. They definitely did not live up to the description in the menu. I actually asked if they had brought me the wrong one, and our waiter just shook his head and showed me the menu again. I was baffled. My husband had ordered the garlic steak after asking the waiter two questions: 1) Can the steak be cooked medium rare? and 2) Do you recommend the dish? The waiter had answered yes to both questions. Lies. Not only was the steak very well-done, but as we cut it up, we realized it is the cheapest cut of meat we have ever been served in a restaurant. Most butchers wouldn't even try to sell this as a steak. It was essentially a large piece of stew beef. Did they think they could trick us by covering it in sauce? At the end of the meal, my husband joked that even if we received a full refund, we would still feel ripped off. We don't plan on eating here ever again.

    it all tastes the same

Estihana is not bad. The food is edible as the other reviewer wrote. But the food is not good; not in any way shape or form unless all you order is the crispy beef. The problem is that unlike other kosher chinese restaurants that try to be authentic, see WigWam in Long Island, Eshithana just throws some brown salty sauce on some overly chewy beef and calls it "lo mein" or "chi chi beef." Basically every single dish, looks, tastes, and smells the same. We really deserve better on the upper west side. Prime Ko may be overly expensive, but at least they make an effort.

    Yummm

Great place! Almost every woman who walk in there orders the "Crispy Chiken." It's awesome! Cool sushi rolls, too
