better over time
I am a long time neighbor to this charming off the beaten track, unpretentious staple to our hood.I have seen its incarnation from the beginning, as a cafe, then full service restaurant as a husband and wife duo to a single Tribeca mom proving her talents solo as the grand dame of hosting her space. She must love what she does because even through this hellish economy she has been able to survive and keep the food consistent and always fresh. Her staff although sometimes a bit quirky are old familiar faces and seem truly happy to be working there. That certainly adds appeal to coming here.It is def a neighborhood spot but well worth going out of the way for because the food is flavorful and bountiful .Another bonus is many offerings of wines by the glass and it is a very good selection. Try to snag an outdoor table you will feel like you are in Paris!

credit card
i've been eating at estancia regularly for the past 2 years and ordered carry out yesterday. i saw a previous review mentioned they were charged extra on their card and thought nothing of it. just checked my account and they did the exact same thing to me. addded $6 onto a carry-out order. no idea what's going on here

Great Neighborhood Spot
My wife and I eat here at least once a week. It's one of our favorite restaurants in NYC. The staff is wonderful, and the decor makes you feel like you are eating at home. I'd reccommend the bruschetta, the shrimp, the pasta bolognese, the steak sandwiches, and the L'Argentino for dessert.

Don't use your credit card
We visited Estancia 460 after a friend recommended it for brunch. We passed several restaurants on our way there, but were determined to have this brunch. Alas, when we got there, we were informed that they were only serving lunch. We decided to stay and settled in for Pollo Melts. The meal was decent, although our server ignored us the entire meal and the fries were lukewarm. We didn't even get the bread we saw being placed on the tables of everyone around us. But here's the kicker. When I got back home a few days later and checked my bank account, the meal was considerably higher than the price on my receipt. I always tip in cash so I wonder why there would be an additional 6 bucks charged to my card. This was no mistake. What kind of crooked waitstaff double tips themselves after you've already tipped 15%!? I'm annoyed and waiting to hear back from the manager about it. Yeah it's only $6 but it's the principal.

all and all would def. go back
I just moved into Tribeca and was told about this neighborhood place. The word is that it never fails and you feel like home here. I started off with the cheese plate and a Sancerre before my friend arrived. The waiter knew his wines and had a great story about the Sancere, called Sincerite, it could not be called a Sancere because the grape was from outside the AOC but said it is just as good. He was right and the choice of cheeses on the plate were great tastings accompanied with figs and cranberries. My friend arrived and we went straight for there filet mignon. Choice of chimichurri or balsamic glaze, we had one of each. The meat is excellent, no longer from Uruguay but from New Zealand and grass fed.The wine suggested was a malbec called Los Maza and it was perfect ,tanic and hearty. Only room for an espresso after and will next try there brunch which I hear is kid friendly and mellow. My kind of joint!

What Happened?
sosa Borella, I miss you. I went last night to Estancia and ordered the strip steak/chimuchuri. This may have been one of the worst pieces of meat I have had in many a year. OK, the flavor was good enough, but it was tough beyond imagination (I actually got a cramp in my hand trying to cut it and it was FULL of sinew and gristle (sp?). I literally left half of the meat on the plate. To make matters worse, I ate al fresco and these three kids, who seemed to have some connection with the restaurant (one kept coming out with what seemed to be free sodas), hung around out in front for the entirety of my meal. They were very noisy and ill-mannered. The girl, the oldest of the trio, took delight in calling herself a nasty slut (she couldn't have been 13 !!!). All in all a bad experience topped off by a walk to the 1 train in the rain. I will not go back.
