i went to essex for brunch with a group of girl friends this past weekend. the food and portions were amazing and the service was wonderful. the waitress was very helpful and answered all our questions. if you're going for the 3 drinks included with your meal, make sure you're there after noon because they don't serve them until then.

LOVED IT! I threw my sister's bridal shower at Essex on Saturday and was very happy. We had 1PM reservations. - Excellent and tasty food - Generous portion sizes - Fun environment - Attentive service The only complaint - music was way too loud. Other than that, highly recommend!

I have been here twice so far..both nights on thursdays because of the oysters! they are fresh and a great value. i would also recommend the macaroni and cheese dish and the potato pancakes. the food here is overall pretty good and they are very generous with the portions. service can be a little slow, but overall its a great relaxing place and i highly recommend it.

OK, so the service is kind of a crapshoot, but this is legitimately the best brunch in NYC. Also, it's brunch! You're not supposed to be in a hurry! The menu is creative and original (matzoh brei omelet?!), and your meal includes 3 drinks (or more, if your server likes you and consistently tops off your mimosa). It's a true scene, but that's why most people flock here - the atmosphere is loud, lively, and fashionable. Best value for your money. Reservations are a must, unless you enjoy waiting for up to an hour or more while standing around a crowded bar. Warning: brunch is cash only!

I have been a brunch regular at Essex for quite some time, it never disappoints, and this weekend I tried Dinner for the first time with a group of 10 and was very impressed with the experience. While the bar area was as rediculously crowded and loud as at brunch, we were seated in a quiet candle lit corner of a balcony that was like having a private room. The menu is more formal, and more expensive than brunch, but the quality to value to ratio is very high. Our server was super attentive and made us feel like we were her only table. She recommended several well-priced wines by the half bottle that allowed us a great sample of the wine list. The food especially the entrees, was very good. The filet mignon, which was served with a spicy pepper sauce was one of the best steaks I ever had. Dessert was a mixed bag, with the peanut butter pie the one standout. To top it off, our server bought us drinks at the bar where a DJ was playing and we ended up staying after dinner for two hours. A perfect night out.

Overall satisfied with the taste and quality of the meal. Lot of variety for brunch, great drink specials. We had a major problem with service however. We filled our own water, and recieved the wrong drinks. We didnt have any knives until we asked for the second time. By then we buttered our bread, with the bread itself, and scraped apart our brunches with the sides of our fork. We didnt have any napkins until we asked again for the second time. When we recieved the check, we were less than amused to find an automatic 20% gratuity tacked onto the bill.

Went with a friend looking forward to some wine and a nice dinner. Our server was surly and might have been decent if he took the chip off his shoulder. Another server at one point came over to pour our wine and completely filled our glasses! She filled them to the brim! Did no one teach her table service, we wondered. Then the food: both dishes were tasty but neither was hot, and when we were finished it took 20 minutes for someone to clear our empty plates. To the last reviewer: heres a hint- dont ever order anything that is wasabi crusted or a chicken dish that is goat cheese stuffed. these are passe dishes, and your meal went down hill as soon as you ordered the most boring items on the menu.
