Best Bagels but dont expect the Four Seasons
I love these reviews all sighting bad service, what did you think? Its a bagel store with only a counter and a million people streaming through the doors all day. I have been eating their bagels all my life, they are the BEST! The service is only an issue if you have 36 questions and still dont know what you want. Get together before you get on line and you'll be in and out in a snap. And no they don't toast.

Rude Staff, Good Bagels
I have been there a few times and have continued to deal with the rude staff for a good bagel. But recently, I ordered something off the menu and they got pissed and yelled "you can get that at the deli across the st." I understand it is more complicated when I don't just order a bagel w/ cream cheese, but they shouldn't offer egg and cheese on the menu if they're to lazy to make it.

Bad service
The people who work there are terrible. Not only were they verbally rude but they left one our sandwiches out and continued to make and wrap sandwiches for the customers behind us. While my boyfriend's roast beef was good, my bagel was subpar as was my egg salad. If the food was good, I wold tolerate the nasty people behind the counter but its not worth it.

Best NYC Bagel and Spreads!
We go out of our way just to get Ess-a-Bagels. They are incredible, full, and always fresh. You can sit at their handful of cafe tables or get it to go. The staff is fine, just don't stand there and pick your nose. Look, order, move over, pay, and go. Easy & definitely worth it!!!

Best Bagel in New York, but ...
This bagel is incredible. Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese for $2 and change is a great deal, too. But Ess-a has a fatal flaw. They refuse to toast your bagel. "They're already warm" is the excuse I was given by the man at the counter a few weeks ago when I went in, which is absurd for two reasons. 1) The customer, but the server, should be the one who determines what temperature is "warm enough" considering it is me and you who are, you know, the person actually EATING the bagel. I like my bagel to be HOT, not warm. Additionally, by the time I get home to put it in my mouth, the bagel is, at best, room temperature "warm." That is not how I like to eat my bagel. 2) It's not just a temperature thing; it's a texture thing. I like my bagel to be crispy -- I enjoy the crunch of it being toasted. It's a personal preference. So why won't Ess-a accommodate their customers' wishes? I would take more seriously their claims that they wish not to sully how a bagel is "supposed to be prepared" if when you ordered an egg sandwich they didn't stick it in the microwave. Finally, I will continue to go back and just get cream cheese on the side and just toast at home because they really are that good.

service
I can not believe how unfriendly the staff is here. For a bagel place that has clearly declined and is suffering in business, they should try a bit harder. The bagels are decent, but the attitude will prevent me from going back.
