    Love this place

This is a great place, especially in the summer time- you can sit outside. Drinks are strong, everything on the menu is good, but don't plan on being waited on hand and foot. My bf and I frequent this place most out of any east village restaurant.

    Delicious Food, Great Fun

I've been to Esperanto three times now, and each time its been a wonderful experience. Twice on dates, and once even with the parents. Their menu is diverse and a great bargain (try the goatcheese encrusted with plantains appetizer & the pork stew is also delicious). The drinks are amazing although quite sweet (I got a kiwi caprihana). Service is a little slow, but if you don't want to wait for a table go during the week or get there a little before 7. And you can't beat the live music and decor. And save room for dessert, I made this mistake the first time and I still regret it.

    Wonderful!

What else can I say other than this place is a winner. On the weekend might be a bit of a wait for a table, and a bit tight up at the bar when waiting for a table. but it is worth it. Have gone here for several friends birthdays, as well as dates & dinner w/ friends. Each time we were served quickly no matter how packed the place was or how big our group was. Very festive. Loud & noisy in a great way. All foods we have tried are a 10, and the desserts are decadent. Dangerous mojitos & Capiernas :)

    I love their food!

It is a very nice place, where the food (crab in banana leaf, the ceviche, polo de la casa, the tuna,?) and the drink (passion fruit capairinha) are delightful. I understand that place is packed cause it is so good. I have always had a nice time at the restaurant and I go at least once a week. The brunch is good too.

Brazil... la la la lara ra ra raaaaaa

The drinks are awsome. Food is excellent... great ceviche, arroz con coco, the snapper is yummi... good presentation, good music.. and, yes the service is kind of slow.. but what's the rush anyway? (Go to a fastfood if you're in a hurry) enjoy your mojito or caipirhna... and save room for the coconut flan.. the best I've had in years!

    What happened?

The food and drinks are good. Not exploding-good. Just good. Unfortunately for Esperanto there about 200 other places on the same caliber, all within about 10 blocks, so you really have to have something special to keep customers. Which brings me to the service. OK. I can understand it's a very hectic work environment with the music and crowds (of which sometimes up to 90% consists of that Nouveau-bland untucked-dress shirt scene.) It's a bunch of people who think that they're in some sort of Sex & The City shoot. The thing is, they just haven't got what it takes - and I'm talking about the staff. In my opinion not at all worth a repeat experience.
