The food is really quite good, and not all-over-the-place. the wines are top notch. The service during the early parts of the week needs improvement. This is a fine restaurant, and worthy of repeated visits.

Let me start this review off by saying I am a first-generation Italian and know what true, authentic, homemade Italian food is. Barbone is hands down the best, most authentic Italian food in New York. The pastas are 100% homemade, and you can taste how fresh the ingredients are in each dish. The Chestnut Ravioli is out of this world, it literally melts in your mouth and explodes with buttery sweet goodness. The Saffron Taglioni with crab is again homemade pasta with very fresh crabmeat and wonderful flavor. The Black Pepper Pappardelle with short rib ragu is heavenly. The waiter gave us a free dessert (panna cotta) that was hands down the best I have ever had. I will definitly be going to Barbone again!

We went to Barbone's based on other positive reviews and we weren't disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, the wines were wonderful and the service was helpful and attentive. The five of us were celebrating a birthday so we shared the pasta tasting menu and we all loved it. They even treated us to dessert. We'll definitely be back again soon.

For a light/rich appetizer order the warm roasted tomatoes with pesto spiked ricotta (fantastic). Rich flavorful main entree, order the cavatelli with chicken sausage paired with a good red wine. Will definitely go back. I wish that the menu would change everyonce and a while. Looking forward to my next meal at Barbone.

Last Saturday my friend went to Barbone to dine, after she had a wonderful night she called me to say that Barbone is the best restaurant she had ever dined in. Four days later I went to see how good the restaurant was. It was fantastic! The place was small, homely and well designed, but the garden was the best.the view was magnificient, especially the fireflies. The staff was very nice, the owner came over to greet himself and would lead us into a nice conversation, while the waiters got the menu's. The owner recomended the Calamari alla piastro,Wild boar lazagna,Veal meat balls. We ordered the bottle of Vernaccia nero wine. Alberto (the owner) was very knowledgeable, specially about his wines (he made his wine list himself) and he has a sunny personality. I had great time and great food. I feel that every thing at Barbone was made with love and passion. I will go there all the time and trust me the price also was very right. Simply the Best in East Village.

Here are the basics: - The food is good, but nothing special. - The backyard is nice - The staff is efficient and good - Our group of 8 had a struggle to get a table that could accommodate us. The owner wanted to push us into a very small table, hoping that he would get other business that night. Let's just say, the place was pretty empty and the customers did not feel welcome. The pasta dishes were ok, nothing special. The asparagus fries appetizer were very good. The scallops were inedible. There are plenty of other better places that are far more worth of your money.

I went with 3 girlfriends to enjoy their backyard at 6 PM. We were seated in the backyard and ordered a bottle of wine and 2 appetizers. At the time, we were the ONLY table seated in the back. We went to order another bottle of wine and they told us if we didn't order main meals we had to leave. Mind you, the cost of the 2nd bottle was the equivalent of 2 meals. The manager turned and walked away from us when we pointed this out to him. We walked out of an empty restaurant. Too many other better choices in the area to be treated so rudely.
