    Pursueing success with passion

Last Saturday my friend went to Barbone to dine, after she had a wonderful night she called me to say that Barbone is the best restaurant she had ever dined in. Four days later I went to see how good the restaurant was. It was fantastic! The place was small, homely and well designed, but the garden was the best.the view was magnificient, especially the fireflies. The staff was very nice, the owner came over to greet himself and would lead us into a nice conversation, while the waiters got the menu's. The owner recomended the Calamari alla piastro,Wild boar lazagna,Veal meat balls. We ordered the bottle of Vernaccia nero wine. Alberto (the owner) was very knowledgeable, specially about his wines (he made his wine list himself) and he has a sunny personality. I had great time and great food. I feel that every thing at Barbone was made with love and passion. I will go there all the time and trust me the price also was very right. Simply the Best in East Village.

    Not worth it...

Here are the basics: - The food is good, but nothing special. - The backyard is nice - The staff is efficient and good - Our group of 8 had a struggle to get a table that could accommodate us. The owner wanted to push us into a very small table, hoping that he would get other business that night. Let's just say, the place was pretty empty and the customers did not feel welcome. The pasta dishes were ok, nothing special. The asparagus fries appetizer were very good. The scallops were inedible. There are plenty of other better places that are far more worth of your money.

Rude Management & Bad Business Decision

I went with 3 girlfriends to enjoy their backyard at 6 PM. We were seated in the backyard and ordered a bottle of wine and 2 appetizers. At the time, we were the ONLY table seated in the back. We went to order another bottle of wine and they told us if we didn't order main meals we had to leave. Mind you, the cost of the 2nd bottle was the equivalent of 2 meals. The manager turned and walked away from us when we pointed this out to him. We walked out of an empty restaurant. Too many other better choices in the area to be treated so rudely.

    Really great place!!

I never do these types of reviews, but I had to for this place. I've been here twice with friends and absolutely loved this place. The wine options are great, the food is outstanding (really superior quality food) and the service is phenomenal. I am a vegetarian and my other friends are strict meatatarians and we were all able to find several great courses to devour. The outdoor patio in the back is great. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to get seated back there the second time we went, but not a big deal (consider reservation on a nice evening). I will be going there some time soon, again.

    Superb food!

Two of us had an amazing dinner last night. We decided to go for 5 course tasting menu and each dish was very tasty. We had fresh mozzarella, calamari, the best ever prosciutto, some pasta, lamb shank and flat iron steak. Deserts are to die for, try their cheesecake and gelato. Prices are more than reasonable and staff is very friendly and polite. I love this place and will definitely go back

    Good food, great prices

I was looking for a relaxed atmosphere, good food, and fair prices, and a friend recommended Barbone. This restaurant definitely lived up to all three. The inside portion (where we said) was very cozy, and the outside looked very cool as well (would probably have sat there if I went with my friends instead of my parents). Everyone was happy with their food. The mozzerella app was very fresh, mussel app was only okay, duck ravoli and parpadelle primis were both delish. For 4 people and 1 bottle of wine, the bill was very reasonable.

    Quite Good

Barbone is a restaurant that is lovely in a very unassuming way. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is attentive. It's the rare kind of place that works well both for a romantic evening and dinner with the family, although it can be difficult to get a table on weekends. Not the place to go if you want a scene, but definitely the place to go to enjoy wonderfully-uted Italian in a charming dining room.
