let's play restaurant
We went to Employees Only for Sunday brunch and found the place almost empty (a bad sign). Then my girlfriend asked for decaf coffee and the waitress mumbled something like "we don't...decaf or diet...pure food restaurant..." (apparently they don't believe in decaf). Then as a substitute for decaf, she offered my girlfriend "espresso or double espresso." It was downhill from there, including the food.

Subpar atmosphere
SO crowded, and mostly guys who are wearing clothes nicer than what they went to work in. After you convince the "bouncer" (isn't this a restaurant?) that you plan to eat and not just nurse an amstel at the bar like most people, you make your way through a dense crowd that fills the tiny space between the bar and the tables against the wall (worst tables in the place, you will get your drink knocked over). The back is nice and the food pretty good but the bartenders are in love with themselves and the whole vibe is very irritating. On to the next....

I still like this place...
but not sure you could call that eclectic menu good. Fun place to fill up late but there is better - the upside at this place is the crowded bar later - the bankers are usually long gone. (oh and i cant say ive met many bankers with vacuous gfs - anyone who thinks the food is awesome probably needs to look at what is hanging on their arm...)

Awful crowd but still on point
Yeah, I have to agree with the review a couple reviews down -- the crowd has become simply awful, with the now ubiquitous contingent of bankers/tools in full force, but fortunately the preparation at the bar and in the kitchen doesn't seem to have suffered much. I've only had the late night menu though.

Good Stuffs!
I've been here a couple of times, and every time has been good... Go early if you wanna beat the crowd... but.. later on the "scenery" is excellent! and the food is AMAZING. High prasies coming from a foody like me. If I could afford to, i'd eat here all the time. :P

Just expect a crowd
I thought the food was really good. Had the special California sea bass, and friends enjoyed pasta and chicken. Our waitress was great, but the place is small and does get packed. You don't have much room on the table or in the bar, but hey, it's New York!

Good food, decent service, packed
Came here on a Friday night approx 9pm, and took us five minutes to get back to the hostess' table. The bar was jammed, shoulder to shoulder with business folks. We were seated ten minutes after we got there in the back covered patio in a center two top table. The food was good however. Steak tartare, bone-in chicken were delicious. When we were leaving, the bar was more packed than when we first walked in. I felt like I was in a club. All we wanted was to get a bite to eat. I can deal with not going back there.
