We opened our doors on March 22nd, 2011 with the intention of treating tacos with a high level of respect and serving them in a fun environment. Which is how I believe tacos should be enjoyed. We designed the menu with the idea that most ingredients worth eating can benefit further by being placed atop a well-made tortilla. We push our kitchen team to explore the ubiquitous flavors that we all love about Mexican cooking in this country as well as the less obvious ones that we all should love. Empellon's approach to cuisine is informed by authenticity but is not limited by it.\n\nEmpellon Taqueria offers a full bar that includes margaritas, tequila, wine, specialty cocktails and mezcal selections.

Yum-my!
Love this little gem of a restaurant- has such a homey and fun vibe. My husband and I ordered way too much food because we wanted to try everything from this simple but delicous menu. I recommend ordering a bunch of the taco's to split- the fish and steak one's were amazing but so were the chicken and pork- we ordered half orders with some sides and we were beyond full but happy. Oh, and the octopus appetizer was ridiculously good as well. Tastes were so lively and delicous and original- we will be back!

best spot in nyc
I love everything about Empellon. Their food is delicious and they push the boundaries of Mexican food in the most interesting and rewarding ways. Every experience I've had has been perfect from the service to the drinks and the food. Alex Stupak and his crew are making the most exciting food right now in New York City, get there before you can't get through the door here anymore!

Great for birthdays
I had a birthday party here with 10 people and we did a pre-fix menu. It was amazing! Everyone was nice, it was easy to pay the bill, and the food was AMAZING! I am not going to lie so were the drinks! The best part, they even personalized our menu's with Happy Birthday Melanie . Thanks for an amazing experience!

You can do better
You could eat at worse restaurants than Empellon, but you can do much better. Virtually everything I ate at Empellon tasted a bit ... "off". The guacamole tasted too citrus-y. The chipes and sopes were greasy. The salsas were ... not salsas: they were dipping sauces that did not appear to have any relation to Mexican food. The space (I was in the front room) is tight. You're bound to either have someone at the bar's a** in your face or you'll have waitstaff bumping into you as they walk by every two minutes. There's lots of places that offer more "refined" Mexican food - which is what Empellon is trying to offer - Toloache, Crema, Suenos and even Rockinghorse Cafe are all head and shoulders above Empellon. Next time, I'll go to one of those places.

Yum!
Delicious food and drink! Fun energetic atmosphere. Really nice service, not pushy at all, and very respectful. I went here on a very busy Thursday evening with a couple of friends and we had a blast! One friend has a few dietary restrictions, and the kitchen was so accomidating, and she was so happy that they didn't make her feel bad for her issues, as some others tend to do (eye rolls, heavy sighs, or just plain rudeness-), this place was GREAT! Drinks were so tastey that I myself usually nurse a drink throughout a meal, but they were so yummy that I maybe took down 3, and left very "happy"...as did my friends! As for the price point, we were happy to pay the price for the evening and great food. You really can tell the difference between the quality of the ingredients here as opposed to the places where you pay less, but know that you are eating "ish" product..This was awesome and we will all be back soon and often!

Loved it!
Best tacos in new York. Guacamole was amazing. Shrimp crviche ridiculous. Watercress salad amazing. Chorizo queso sick. Short rib sope delicious. Pork tenderloin tacos and lobster tacos were best things I've ever eaten
