Customer service what's that?
We (14 of us) went there yesterday for the first and last time. We had about an hour to waste before a show so we decide to grab a quick bite. Well, there was nothing quick about this place! While the food was just ok, the service was subpar. The guy behind the counter just kept arguing with me and said "if we want to pay service we can sit" then preceeded to tell me to "shut up" and put his fingers in his ears like he was 4! We ended up eating outside place, in the cold. Being in the restaurant business, we would never recommend nor ever return to that place again. The worker may want to consider a career change to...stocking shelves in the overnight shift where there is not contact with people - ever!!

service issues
I have been to empanada mama on several occasions, and I can’t remember a time when I had a pleasant experience. The girls behind the counter are less than friendly. So here’s my dilemma: while I enjoy eating their food, I feel that a customer should always be treated in a courteous manner, and empanada mama lacks customer service in so many ways.

Small...But great for a quick bite
Went here last week with my wife. Were waiting for a movie to start and needed a place for a quick bite. The place was extremely small. Seemed like no tables from outside but we were lucky and were seated as soon as we arrived when another couple was leaving. Not too comfortable but for a short quick stay its great. Sangria pitcher @ $18 great value for 2 people. We had about 3-4 glasses each. The guacamole w/ plantain chip is great the Yucca was awsome as well. Both big portions for like 4. The Hawaiin my favorite overall. Finally, the sweet mashed plantain with mozzarella cheese dessert empanada is a must have. We had it w/ some whip cream on the side. Pitcher of sangria, 2 appetizers, 3 empanadas and 2 dessert empanadas.....$48.12

Great! But be ready to wait for a table
I used to live in the neighborhood so have been here many times. The food is always great. I have tried lots of different items from the empanadas to mains to desserts - its AWSOME! The sangria is very good too! One (BIG) complaint, it’s a SMALL place so there is always a wait - no big deal BUT the "hostess" does not put names on a list and often suggests people wait inside. 1 - It is tooooo cramped to hover inside waiting for a table. 2 - With no list it is impossible for her to keep track of who is next. I have been the victim of the hostess’ memory! In such a small place being skipped over once means an even longer wait. OK so you get past that . . . and the food is GREAT. I like the cheeseburger and Hawaiian empanadas best. Go! Try it! And cross your fingers you get seated in the order you arrived.

Sloooooow
Went here for the first time yesterday and am going back today for more. That's how much I love the empanadas. The kitchen is painfully painfully slow. It's ridiculous. I don't understand it pre-make them, throw in fryer - it's like the easiest thing in the world. But not for this staff. You will not be offered chips for waiting. And if you decide to order chips you have to wait for them too! It's really beyond. Hopefully take out will be a better experience. If it's not I will certainly write here again.

Good food, but nothing else
Seriously, empanadas should never be this expensive for being so small- they are quite easy to make at home. Regardless, the flavor is great (makes the price worth it). don't recommend eat in- everything will be more expensive and they expect a tip for poor service. I recommend getting your food to go.

Very good food poor service
The empanadas at Empanada Mama are great. However, the service (as others have noted) leaves a lot to be desired. The wait staff is ok most of the time. Delivery is another story. Half the time my food never arrives because, mysteriously, the delivery person calls my phone but it seems to have momentarily stopped working. My advice: dine in or order for pickup. Do not order for delivery if you want to avoid a hassle.
