A delightful lunch
I had an excellent lunch here the other day--a chicken wrap. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were fresh. It came with a cup of homemade soup, which made the lunch an excellent value. And the service was extremely professional and nice. Though my friend and I lingered long, they didn't rush us out. All in all, it was a perfect place for an unrushed weekday lunch. I know other reviewers have reported negative experiences, but I'd give the place another chance--at least for lunch.

This place is all but in my building, and I don't eat there.
I live literally around the corner from this place, on Cabrini. I've lived here for over a year. I ate there once last year and was so unimpressed that I didn't go back until today; they advertised a new menu, which I took as an acknowledgment of how bad they'd been. I saw no change today. My pancakes (2 of them) were cold and flavorless, the sausage was inedible. The butter was cold, solid and in one of those little packets. The toast was burnt on the edges and raw in the middle. Do they even have a real toaster? The first cup of coffee was great, but the second was cold and bitter, as if they'd turned off the coffee maker and given me the dregs.

Service now improving? Perhaps...
I wrote an earlier review talking about we only order delivery from here now because the service was poor despite the terrific food. I'd like to say that recently we tried eating here again after a long time of staying away & were pleasantly surprised - our server was competent & pleasant, & the food came out in a timely manner. I still see this one rather grouchy woman when I pick up takeout though, but the other counter women are VERY nice, so they help to kind of cancel her out. I just had to let people know about the overall improved service here - it was great to have such a markedly different time & to see that they seem to be making efforts . I still don't think I'd eat here if it was superbusy though. But they are off the "must avoid eating at" list now.

Overpriced?
I want to know where all these great, cheap places are in this hood everyone keeps talking about when hey complain about prices. I've experienced the lousy service at Emilou. But service aside, please, tell me where all these great sub-8.95 chicken sandwiches are? How is 8.95 to much for a sandwich in a decent restaurant with a dining room? There ARE places serving larger portions at a cheaper price. There's a ton of steam-table places down on Broadway. Enjoy. I personally don't find more of subpar food served more cheaply any kind of improvement. We get the food we deserve. If everyone is going to flip out over a 9 dollar chicken sandwich, we'll keep getting subpar food. That said, Emilou's service really is not good at all.

Decent food for the Heights
For this neighborhood, the food id definitely pretty good. Its' just way too overpriced. Two sandwiches with French Fries and two cans of coke comes out to almost $30. While the food is decent, you can find bigger portions at much much lower prices at several other places in the area

WAY over priced
My god, $10 for a chicken salad sandwich? With no side at all? Good food, but insanely overpriced (and not always that good - twice have found cartilage in my sandiwiches, but I guess it's my fault for continuing to order from this place and hope that it might be better) and consistantly poor service - do the servers even care about what they're doing? No one is ever friendly, never even offer a smile, and usually speak to you as if you're a huge burden on them. How is this place still in business? It could be good if they hired a new staff and adjusted the prices a bit, but as is this place is the bottom of the barrel in the neighborhood.

great time
We eat here for lunch often on Saturdays. The food is vegetarian friendly and very good. We love the vegetable tangine. Highly recommended.
