Surprisingly good
My wife, who is 5 months pregnant was craving for Filipino food but we were too tired to take the train to Queens where we normally get Flip food. I heard of Elvie's through an American co-worker (I'm a Fil-Am) and was thrilled to find a Filipino restaurant in the city. It's a tiny place, definitely not a "take your date" kind of atmosphere, but the food was excellent; price was average, considering it's in Manhattan ($10 for 2 dishes and a scoop of rice); the workers were attentive and quite friendly. Halo-hal0 is a must! For a last minute choice, totally worthwhile! Thank God for my wife's cravings!

This place is still in business?
I don't know how they justify the prices they charge. There is no atmosphere. The food was pretty disgusting. Elvi's is not a good representation of good Filipino food. It's actually an embarrassment!!

Good Food, Bad Service...
It is not a good idea to enjoy the good food in this restuarant, you might just get a good fill and needs to use the restroom that they don't have. What a place in NYC? Thanks to the ever reliable McDonalds around the corner, saved my bladder.

Good Place To Eat Pinoy Food.
I've tried Kare-Kare, Adobo, and Halo-Halo. Food is good and this place is a few dollars lower than the others. I'll be back.

Better off in Queens
Its OK...if I have a craving for something close to filipino homecooking I go here b/c its the only option. Its subpar compared to any other filipino restaurant in the outer boroughs or in NJ but at Manhattan prices. If you have to give in to the craving, go by all means, but if you can be patient enough to go somewhere else I'd wait.

You call this Filipino food???
Granted, I cook authentic Filipino food at home. However, I can't believe this place has the nerve to call itself a Filipino restaurant. Restaurants in Queens and Jersey are soooo much better. This stuff was almost inedible. And for what they charge??? You've got to be kidding me!!!

What a Christmas flop!
After hearing a lot of great reviews about Elvie's, I decided to order my "holiday spread" from them. What a huge letdown. Their palabok was made with spaghetti noodles and worse, as garnish, it had ground beef! Any Filipino would know that authentic palabok would use chicharon flakes as topping and not ground beef!! If you want your Christmas/or any occasion to be as special and as "Filipino" as it could be, do not ruin it by ordering from Elvie's...
