    My favorite place in Manhattan

I love this place! Where else can you sit and be serenaded by singers that were better than 90% of the American idol participants this year ( the manager told me two of the waiters were on the competition in fact this year!). I went with my family and our friends that live here ( they say they bring out of towners all the time)...anyway all I can say is wow! The portions were huge, and we had everything from the Blue Suede Burger ( delish), to the pot pie, macaroni and cheese, Cobb Salad- you name it we were all over the menu. The shakes are thick and served in the can the old fashioned way, and the desserts like the whoppie pie Sundae, the rainbow cookie sundae and the Red Velvet cake were off the charts- in fact the best I have had in the city this week. I saw some of the negative reviews here and they made me scratch my head- free entertainment and someone else complained about the cost- hey baby you're in mid town Manhattan in the greatest city in the world- it's a little more expensive here but absolutely worth it- the staff is super nice and they can sing, drop a check and pour your coffee all at the same time! Now that's talent!!!!

    Cheap broadway entertainment

We stumbled across this place after seeing a broadway play. The staff are fantastic and we couldn't get enough of them. They are very talented. The entertainment is just as good as any broadway play but a lot cheaper. We sat for 3 hours and spent about 40 dollars each. Not bad for an evening of entertainment in NYC. The food is okay. Dessert and milkshakes are great! Go for the entertainment. It's a great night out.

    Not good ...

We got sick of waiting for our uncomplicated breakfast of two toasted bagels and that later tables had their respective foods first. The waiting staff were too into themselves that the diners were an intrusion. We cancelled and paid for our two regular coffees - $6.50!

    Take your kids-- so fun

Good diner type food, but the singing and the service is the best part - VERY talented staff sing and mess around while you eat. It was great to eat a meal with the family and NOT make any conversation! Just sit and be entertained and then have things to talk about when you are out of there. It is amazing to see who didn't make the Broadway cut, b/c these kids are talented! Have $$ ready for the bucket that helps with their music lessons and then order a big burger and watch your waiter bring it to you on a tray while he sings IN A MIC! SO fun!!!

    Better Burger at the Deli!

Will make this short. We all got burgers for about $18 w/ fries. They all tasted like they were made the day before and then microwaved just before serving. Extremely dry and tasteless, rubbery. The bun and fries were good. Will not order here again as this is not the first time with the food quality.

Only thing good is the Waitstaff

So I went to Ellen's about 3 weeks ago for dinner with my Aunt and Uncle and well the only thing good about the place are the servers. THey are always smiling and having a good time singing while still providing great service to their guest. Our server was so talented and at one point in our meal she performed defying gravity from Wicked and we were floored. How these singers havent been discovered amazes me. The food was ok...nothing special and nothing you couldnt get at a regular diner but it was ok. The atmosphere was great seeing as the servers are always smiling and singing. So as I was saying the best thing about this place is the staff...everything else is not worth the time.

    Great Entertainment, mediocre food

My out-of-town relatives LOVE this place, so every time they visit, we go here. I try not to be a snob about "touristy" places, but Ellen's is simply a tourist trap. The kids who perform there are actually quite talented, better than the lot on this season's "American Idol" - but still, it is basically a crowded, noisy theme restaurant. They cram so many people into such small tables - even when the restaurant is half empty. I know this is New York & we're used to close dining quarters, but at most places you don't have yentas bumping & jostling you at every turn, trying to get a photo of an aspiring star. The staff is appealing, although more attention is paid to singing than serving. The food... Bland, boring, & beside the point.
