El Paso Taqueria

I live one block away from El Paso and I must admit, I don't have to go far for reliable Mexican food. Unfortunately, NYC is not known for good Mexican, but El Paso certainly stakes its claim for savory, reasonably priced, and genuine Mexican food. Great neighborhood joint!

I used to work in the area and go to this place like twice a week. Now, I make a special trip here every month or so, and it's worth it. My favorite is the chicken enchilada with green sauce, the best I've had in any Mexican place, and I've been to many. The chimichangas are also good, so is the tortilla soup and the avocado salad - very refreshing. Their service is slow, especially getting the check and their coffee was burnt the last time I had it. The quality of the food and the reasonable prices compensate.

El Paso is a fantastic hole-in-the-wall taqueria on E 97th. Their food is authentic, tasty, fresh and very reasonably priced. They recently updated the interior to something on par with a classy Denny's, which makes eating there and savoring the Mexican sodas and beers more worthwhile. Great tacos, flautas and tortas, as well as a deliciously tangy/spicy salsa. Sadly, I live just outside of the delivery area, so I'm forced to make the journey north weekly to get my fix - but it's always worth it.
