El Paso Taqueria

I ordered a burrito platter for delivery. When it arrived they sent only a burrito, over charging me by 50% and messing up my order. When I called, they recognised the mistake and told me that they were sending my food over. I settled in to eat my burrito, awaiting my beans and rice. When the delivery person arrived he demanded that I give him my half eaten burrito back in exchange for a new platter. I explained to him that I had already started eating the burrito, it was several stories away, and I only expected my beans and rice in the first place. He shrugged and turned over the entire new burrito platter. His manager then called to demand my half eaten burrito!! Again, I decline and told him he could have his pristine burrito platter back as long as he refunded me the difference in cash. He argued with me for several minutes before agreeing. When his delievery person finally arrived for the third time he refused to give my money! It took a phone call and several minutes of negotiating to get my much deserved money back. I just wanted to either eat the food I ordered, or to pay the correct price for the food they gave me. Clearly these people have never heard the saying that the customer is always right.

I've been to this place many times over the past 2 years and must say the food has been consistently very good (although I did not know they were temporarily shut down for health code violations per the review below). I haven't been able to find many good Mexican restaurants with a good atmosphere on the upper east. I've been here with family, friends and a date and can say it works for any occasion. I would definitely go back.....unless they violate another health code.

Food and atmosphere are OK but incredibly horrible service. We had to ask for chips and salsa multiple times and then waited for over 30 minutes for our food while people who sat down 15 min after us got their entrees. We ended up leaving before we were even served because we were so frustrated.

this place is great, the food is excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable: everything you want in a neighborhood place. in the culinary wasteland that is the mount sinai area, el paso is a rare find and definitely worth trying.

My husband and I had been loyal customers of El Paso for the past four years, until recently. We were very disappointed to learn that this location was shut down due to health code violations and tried to make it look like they were just closed for renovations. They cleverly hid the health code violation sign in the window with a bunch of potted trees out front, and left the "work permit" signs visible. The fact that they messed up our last delivery order and refused to send a replacement is beside the point. While the food was excellent, we will look for another Mexican restaurant.

Here's the deal: The food is good. However, it's not good enough to put up with the kind of disrespectful, disappointing service at this local restaurant. The waiters never bring you water, seem to get insulted if you don't order alcohol, and are just rude far too often. It's really too bad because my wife and I have been coming here for a long time, but no more. It's just not worth it. I'll go somewhere else, thanks.

I have to leave a review after seeing some of the other comments. I live around the block and eat here all the time - with very few exceptions the food here is fantastic. I love the shrimp burrito, fajitas, grilled pork, and spicy shrimp (camarones diablo??). Oh and the chicken tinga tacos (hard shell) are a new favorite. I often will order the seafood special - which can be hit or miss, but when it's good it's very good. For lunches I'll usually do a burrito, a carne enchilada torta or beef nachos. As for the downsides, I'm not wild about the chips but their guac is the best I've had in the city. The service is charmingly awful. Here's a little tip - order water first and never order anything else until they bring the water. If you want water here you're just going to have to be persistent. Overall it's a great place... I've just started getting turned on to the brunch, too... They have some poached egg with chorizo and cornbread that I love.
