Simply great food! The roasted chicken is to die for! The beef stew is always fantastic . The best hangover meals :0) the prices are incredible!

Excellent Dominican food. The best fried porkchops on the planet. The value of the deliciousness and the amount of food you get is just incredible. Like the good old days. And the food is so downhome, like somebody's grandmother is cooking it! We always get takeaway cuz there's only a few tables, its a little cramped and it's always busy. They have an "A" rating from the city restaurant inspection people. There are a million excellent places to eat on Smith Street in this neighborhood and El Nuevo Portal easily holds it's own amongst them.

The food here is excellent. I would highly recommend it. I always order out although people do sit and eat there. It your looking for a cheap, relaxed, meal I would highly consider Nuevo Portal. It's the best of the best!

I don't go to Nuevo Portal to eat, I order in. It's a very basic and the service is mediocre at best. Given that, the food is consistently great and although people describe it as Cuban I think it's actually Dominician given the lack of Picadillo and Ropa Vieja on the menu. Also they sometimes run out of black beans which Cubans would never allow. But, they do have a great Cuban sandwich. I particularly like the Pernil but have never been disappointed with whatever I order. Cubano cafe appeals to the yuppies in the neighborhood (and I use the term with affection) but the better food is at Nuevo Portal.

We only walk over here for lunch to get their very tast Cubano sandwiches. I've also heard that their BLT's are very good and a real deal at $3.00. Seems to be a very popular place with the Latino crowd. Nothing fancy just good food.

El nuevo portal is one of the best spanish restaurants that i have ordered from. aside from the lady who answers the phone who messes up my order alot, its awesome. and the bread and butter is the tastiest thing ive ever tasted in my life.

The food here is delicious. You get more than your moneys worth. It's small - nothing fancy, but damn tasty.
