Food & Service Not That Good

Firstly, we walked into the restaurant and asked if we can just sit anywhere; waitress looked at us like if we were talking in tongues. She had no personality, acted like she really didn't want to work and/or take order, was so slow to even come to our table (restaurant wasn't busy, approx 5 tables were occupied). Finally got our food which took a bit too long to get....pepper steak was dry, but boneless chicarron de pollo was pretty good, rice, beans and tostones were all ok. A little too pricey........could have gone to one of the other spanish restaurants in the area, but since we've never been to this one decided to give it a try; big mistake. We tried it and won't go back.

    rough crowd

this place has wonderful food but if you ever eat in there is a rough crowd. Better to order delivery or eat early.

    My Standard

OK, let's one thing clear: the service is slow. Even for me who has been a regular at this place for almost a decade. But, the food (if you keep it simple) is great, the margaritas are amazingly potent and the vibe old school new york. No place is better for bringing friends and laughing and having a great night out w/o breaking the bank. Come in with a good attitude and you'll leave drunk and full.

Nothing is worth service this bad.

My girlfriend and I have given this place a chance a few times because the food is good and the location is convenient. Each time the service is beyond bad it's downright insulting. We're not formal or high-falutin' and we do not expect any special treatment. We don't care if the servers smile big or fuss over us. The servers at this joint act as if we disgust them, however. Requests for water or the check are greeted with rolled eyes and attitude. This is after you actually get a server's attention in the first place even if business is slow and they're just hanging out by the bar, it could be anywhere from 10-15 minutes before they will make eye contact. This has nothing to do with a "casual atmosphere" or overworked staff these people are just plain ol' rude.

    superb margaritas!...

Food was so so, but the margaritas on the rocks were fabulous. Decor is simple and plain, but great people watching corner of block and a window view of Red Square rooftop.

cool hang out spot.. not fine dining

my friends and I love this spot. The margaritas are off the hook, and the prices are reasonable. I will have to agree that the service sucks, especially if you are a female. However, because the restaurant is one of the few authentic restaurants that have remained despite gentrification, I sense that folks are expecting great service for a cheap price. And frankly, that is not possible for an over-worked staff. I love the place because it is one of the few places left in LES where the crowd is mixed, not only white, and where you feel a sense of home and genuity in the midst of so much mod and yuppie auras...:)
