    Such a good time

I went here this past Saturday for my friend's birthday and had a GREAT time. We made reservations for about 14 people and though different parts of our party came at different times they seated us immediately. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The only drinks I had were the Margaritas which were awesome, I tried a little of my friend's white sangria which was also really good. The food was perfect and basically exactly what I wanted. It wasn't the fanciest place in Manhattan but it was such an enjoyable experience I would most definitely go back again!

    Real dissapointment

Well, i don't know how 29 reviewers can be wrong, but food at this place is really bad. And that's pretty much everything we ordered: guacamole (from a can?) and chips (stale oil taste), shrimp (can again?), rice (overcooked), vegetables (a brown indistinguishable mass). The only eadible thing was refried beans. Not to mention that drinks we ordered were never delivered.

    best mole...

you'll ever have in nyc. you don't come here for the atmosphere, you come here for the home-cooked food. the people who work there are super hospitable and use family recipes. it's an awesome place for a group too. what's better than pitchers of margaritas and chicken enchiladas w/ mole?

    Overpriced for average food

El Maguey y la Tuna seems to have been a neighborhood restaurant that has quite obviously become too aware of it's new clientele. Food was simple and very average and the menu uneventful. I found it to be expensive for what it is. Service was friendly but not enough to make me come back.

    This Place Is Really Fantastic!!

I have to say, I have been to alot of mexican places in the city and this one is TRULY great. The food was sooo good, we got steak fajitas and a pork dishm both were very tasty and big portions. The staff is very attentive and lovely, they gave us free dessert! They have good deals on their margaritas (5 dollars each on the night we were there) Tastes like rosa mexicana but it is far more decently priced. The place is a bit of a walk from the more touristy east village/LES spots, so the crowd is pretty much locals, and this place is hungry for business, so make the trek, it is very much worth it!

    Totally Disagree

I totally disagree with the previous review. I live nearby and eat here all the time. I work as a cook in a NYC restaurant and have eaten traditional Mexican food prepared by some of my co-workers who were born in Mexico. This place is the closest I have found in NYC. The food is authentic and very well priced.
