A bit of Venezuela in NYC
I enjoyed a meal at El Cocotero on New Year's Day 2006. My meal was delightful. I highly recommend the hallaca, and las cachapas (my favorite). The food was authentic and the service attentive and charming.

Cozy but impolite
Understanding the concept of food business, after enjoying a meal there is nothing more important than a respectful service. The food was good but unfortunately attitude doesn't come together. Thanks and good luck!

Ricas Hallacas
I had an exquisite Hallaca (Venezuela's most typical Holiday meal) with spectacular Hen Salad and Papelon con Limon, DELICIOUS! Prices are according to the neighborhood (Chelsea is a little pricey, but fine). The place looks really nice, I love the decoration in the bathroom right behind a big glass: kind of venezuelan vintage pictures and estampitas. Staff is very nice and they work very hard. EXITO!

I felt back home
For a Venezuelan Ex-pat, this was a little slice of home. I was in NYC on a business trip, and happened upon this restaurant. The "marroncito" was just like at the corner Panaderia, and the "Papelon con limon" was great. I had been dying for a teque?on, and was not disappointed. The arepitas were good too. I had the Pabellon Criollo, and it was about as good as Mami made it. Highly recommend it. Prices were a tad high, but what isn't in NYC?

Hola Venezuela!
Loved the atmosphere and the wonderful venezuelan cuisine. The host is gracious and it is a very hot, fun (sometimes loud) crowd. You feel transported from the city into one in latin america. Highly recommend it!

I agree with caro y simplon
Not bad but not great. Too overpriced in my opinion for arepas. I'll buy my own nata and harina PAN and make some for myself when the next craving hits!

Nice little find in Chelsea
Tried El Cocotero Sunday night and was very happy. Past reviews said the portions were small but I left stuffed. The arapas were good. Stick with the meat fillings. The flank steak was the stand out. Very flavorful and moist. I will go back for sure.
