    Better than Spain!?

El Charro Espanol was suggested by my sister in law one night and for this I will forever love her! This is an excellent restaurant. Although it might seem small to some it has an intimate ambiance and the friendly, unobtrusive service makes one feels as if one is dining at home. The quality remains unchanged since the first time I visited over ten years ago. I am not surprised that this restaurant has been in business for more than eighty years. The food is on par or even better than recommended restaurants I visited in Madrid and Barcelona. But it is also an excellent value. The meat portions are very generous as are the seafood dishes. The meals also come with a salad. The sangria achieves a perfect balance of liquor and fresh fruits. And as a special treat try the cafe el charro for a great end to your evening.

It used to be so good but what happened?

This place used to be so good but when I went here tonight, it was such a disappointment. The service was still great but the quality of the food went down. We ordered Paella A La Valenciana and Today's special, lamb, for entrees but both of them were too salty. The only thing that was still good was guacamole. And also Cappuccino. Maybe it was just today or the food we ordered but I'm afraid to come back to this place now...

    Spanish Country Charm

I have been visiting El Charro since June 1970. The food has always been consistently prepared and deliciious. They serve the best Sangria in the US and their Margaritas are special as well. My wife and I consider it our favorite restaurant. Try the camarones in wine sauce, you can't go wrong.

should be on your favorite list

we have been going to el charro for 30 years. They have consistently provided great food and service. There green sauce is the best I've had. I love to bring out-of town visitors here. It's intimate and you can have great food and conversation.

    Out of the city

When you walk down the stairs into El Charro Espanol, you feel as though you've traveled out of NY and into Spain where you can have the greatest paella...or at least the best I have ever had. The restaurant is usually occupied with elder people and you know you are having the traditional Spanish food when you see the locals there. I recommend it to those who are in search of the true traditional Spanish food.
