great neighborhood place
excellent entrees, excellent attentive service. the chips and salsa are delicious. the guac is yummy. the margaritas--killer. entrees are reasonably priced and the portions are of a good size. get the chorizo quesadillas and steak fajitas--delicious. my only complaint is the music--way too loud.

One word: Gingeritas!
Although they are almost always crowded in the evening, El Centro remains one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The drinks are potent, the portions are generous and the music is so bad that it's strangely awesome.

Quality Mexican in NYC
We had a great time here! Great food, right portions, strong drinks and fast service (even though it was packed on a Saturday night) for reasonable NYC prices. It does get a little crowded but a small price to pay. I will definately be going here again!

Disappointing
On my 2nd visit specifically for Pozole, we were very disappointed at service during lunch. Food for entire restaurant took more than 30 mins even though few patrons..no explanations....requests for ?? brought shrugs. It was endless waiting..Eventually growing bored asked for a Coke and when delivered I requested it be "on the house". Waitress said she would ask mgr, i said 'send him over"...he never came (just stood around instead) and it was on the bill. It was just so mishandled and we felt ignored. A shame!

excellent mexican food
moving here from the west coast several years ago, one thing i couldn't get over is the lack of decent mexican food in NY. El Centro is the best I've found so far.

Great spot
Stumbled into here last last after being so rudely turned away from a nearby restaurant. We were a party of 8 and they seated us right away. Guava mojito was great! Food was tasty and priced well. If ever in the neighborhood again, I will definitely stop in.

Food has gone from decent to poor
When El Centro first opened, the food was pretty good. I returned for the first time in about a year to find that the tortillas were greasy, and after a few minutes they turned into stiff paper, incapable of being rolled for the poor fajitas I had ordered. I will not return. And what Mexican restaurant serves white rice?!
