What a shame!
I have been ordering from here for years and years, two often more times weekly. Easy, cheap, fast, and decent. ... That is, until lately. Placing a delivery order is challenging to say the least. And then the food arrives unfresh! Salads with wilted and discolored lettuce. Dressings, cole slaw, cream cheese ... nothing is ever chilled let alone cold - wouldn't surprise me if the health dept were to find them in violation of storing food items at improper temperature. Portions are much smaller than they used to be, and one manager (the one who isn't ill-mannered and does have language skills) said to just tell them that you're a longstanding customer so the kitchen won't scrimp on your order. (No thanks, as I'd fear what the kitchen might do instead.) Am through with giving them chance after chance in hopes they'll revert back to the way they used to be, as it's looking pretty unlikely. ... Heck, they might even close, because all the other restaurants that I gave negative reviews on here have!

They're lucky my wife likes their food...
My wife and I have eaten at EJ's a number of times, and while the food itself has been very tasty, I'm afraid that the presentation (small sandwiches and entrees served on giant empty plates) and the service (a flock of dour youngsters who make me sad) do not justify the prices, which are a bit over-the-top. Just a bit, though. Certainly worth making my wife happy.

Best Veggie Burger
Possibly one of the most delicious veggie burgers I've ever had. I ordered delievery so I can't comment on the atmosphere, but the food arrived within 20 minutes and was warm and perfect

Yum!
Sometimes there's a long wait, but it's usually well worth it. Great for brunch!

Overpriced headache
I live in the city - have been to all sorts of diners, coffee shops, etc, but this place is one of the worst. Loud, cramped, small tables overlooking the street...aisles so small that people passing almost land in the jam..and then the food came. You can get a better western omelette in any greek diner. Waiters don't even ask if you want another cup of way too expensive coffee. We will never go back to this place. Luckily we don't have to. There are more than enough wonderful breakfast places around.

Within and Delivery!
I've eaten at this place and also ordered food for delivery. The service within the restaurant is better than delivery. Perhaps the time that I went helped -- weekday before average dinner time. The food tastes great, and for me that's what counts most. As for the delivery guy, he made it clear that the phone # I provided was inconvenient for him.

EJ's Luncheonette Continuesd To Please!
EJ's Luccheonette consistently soars in culinary excellence far above the Greek diners that dot Manhattan's Eastside. And on any given night, for practically giveaway menu prices, one is treated an array of mouth-watering dishes that even rival a number of Italian and continental style establishments in the area. High on the list of EJ's must-try items is their traditional sliced pot roast dinner, simmering in a memorable juice and carrots with a rich mashed potato and broccoli. A salad is also thrown into the mix, at no extra charge. For $1 more, in lieu of the salad, chicken soup and two other equally savory soups are offered. Most of EJ's Blue Plate dinners seem to range from $11.95 to $16.95. And for the most part, the portions are plentiful and the dinner cannot be fully consumed in one sitting. I pt for delivery and within 15 minutes an EJ's courier is at my door with the delivery. EJ's fish dinners, from grained encrusted cod to broiled wild salmon, with the high prices of fish today, are more or less consistent in size to the finer restaurants in Manhattan. I was particularly impressed with EJ's Greek Style Fettuccini with chicken and shrimp with spinach, artichoke, feta cheese and plum tomato in a delicate white wine garlic sauce that was served with a side of crispy gralic bread..The feta cheese was indeed plentiful and was of the highest grade. Indeed, there was no skimping on ingredients, which surely cost the place more than the $13.95 it went for, or so it seemed. My quiestion is - "How does EJ's make a profit on an items like that!" I was also partially to their fillet mignon dinners that were offered at $15.95. Same question, how can they do it? If anyone has the answer, please pass it on to me. Smoewhat of a cook myself, once in a while I will e-mail the restaurant that I thought that the red sauce did not do justice to the dish. And, I would offer my suggestions. So, it was not a major surprise that I received an e-mail from the owner that they tried out my suggestions and are now implementing some of them. Indulge yourself in EJ's creamed spinach, a real winner. Same for the burgers, pastries. If you live in 13-block delivery area and are planning on getting married, then it is totally irrelevant who can and will cook for EJ's is but a phone call away.
