    best value on my vacation

they have a recession special for lunch and dinner, lunch was something like $6 with the purchase of a beverage, I had a delicious homemade Chicken Noodle Soup & 1/2 of a awesome chicken sandwich with cheese & avocado and bacon on a french roll total satisfaction for a steal. It was so good we went back for dinner and they had dinner specials for $9.95, my wife had a huge salad and I had Filet Mignon server was very sweet & Price was Incredible. Highly Recommend this place I will visit this place every time I visit NYC.

    Yummy...

I love EJ's. I think the food is consistently good, particularly the crunchy french toast with strawberries. They also have turkey bacon, which is a must. Their sandwiches, especially some of the new ones, are also very tasty and have creative ingredients. I'd rather go here than most of the neighborhood diners. The service is usually alright, best if you go at off-peak hours (like late at night, after the movies.) Overally, a great neighborhood staple.

    canned fruit salad!

We were recently at EJ's and ordered a fruit salad ($6). It contained canned pineapple and the orange sections from the jar. The melon was not good -- but the strawberries and banana's were fresh! Rarely in a decent restaurant in NY do you get canned fruit!

    Disappointing

Although we expected to pay higher prices on the Upper West Side, we were surprised by the cost of a breakfast meal, but more surprised that the quality of food didn't live up to the price. Very average - service (although it wasn't busy) was negligent. And this was the ONLY restaurant we ate at during our stay where we couldn't use our card. It's also off-putting to have a notice on the menus that "sharing" isn't allowed. Does that mean my son can't try a bite of my French Toast? I've never seen a notice like that before - hopefully won't see it again.

    First time. LAST time.

The place was crowded so I figured it must be decent? Boy was I wrong. I was jonesin' for breakfast and ordered scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, sweet potato fries & harvest grain pancakes with strawberries on top. Well, the only thing that was edible were the eggs. The bacon was barely cooked & extremely greasy. The fries were dry & limper than a plate of noodles. The pancakes tasted like dough - or had no taste whatsoever - and instead of fresh strawberries, they came with canned strawberries swimming in syrup. ICK!?! I had to douse the cakes in maple syrup and even then couldn't eat them. Not fresh food at all. It's as if they just defrosted everything in the back after I ordered it. VERY DISAPPIONTING. The service was subpar. I think my waitress was cranky... she never filled up my water glass, which sat empty for most of the meal.

    sligtly pricy but great experience

been a while since Ive been there, but had some guest in town for the weekend so decided on a upper west side brunch experience.not a huge wait for a table about 10-15 min, the guy at the door was right on time with his quote, gave us coffee while we were waiting, a little loud with a few kids, but once we got a table didn't even notice. service was fast and efficient the young lady who served us was friendly & knowledgeable of the menu, the food was excellent, corned beef hash, pumpkin pancakes, French toast that was coated with almonds & cornflakes with fresh fruit topping, huge glasses of fresh OJ, coffee was just the Right Strength. they were starting to get very busy & there is a little pressure to exit once we finished our meal , slightly more expensive then you might think they should be , but pretty large portions, we were very satisfied. my friends said they wish they had a restaurant like this back home.
