I decided to give eisenberg a try today. I noticed they serve cold borscht which is VERY refreshing during hot summer months (if it's made right). Mind you my grandmother made the best borscht on earth, so my standard is HIGH. Eisen's borscht is damn good! They get my slavic stamp of approval. Service was friendly and fast, and I loved the "old school" atmosphere. I will definately be back to try their chopped liver & pastrami!

The best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. God bless this place. May it stay open forever. It is a link to an era I was born too late to see. But walking into this place, settling into the counter with a newspaper, and eating diner food they way it was meant to be served, I feel closer to the glory days of NYC than at any other moment in my ten years living here. I suspect the ghost of E.B. White keeps a table in the back.

Oh my - been coming here for years - now in addition to the most delicious chopped liver (a new recipe) and yummy shrinp salad (also a new recipe - i ask alot of questions!) - they have added BURGERS! They are delicious - made to order (the fries are great too) - the best burger for taste and price in the neighborhood. Now how will I choose what to have for lunch?

My Boss recommended this place to us, and it was pretty great. Gruff, yet friendly cooks right at the counter chatted with us and gave us free hot chocolate and coffee. Cheap, good, and great for lunch!

Eisenberg's has been a long-time favorite for me and many of my friends. The food is fresh, the service terrific and now, under new management, it's even better! The new owner warm and friendly, and is really cleaning the place up -- while still maintaining Eisenberg's "old-time" feel. The sandwiches are even more generous, the meats of higher quality and don't get me started on the CHOPPED LIVER! It's fresh every day and OUT OF THIS WORLD! The eggs are fresh and deliciously pan-fried, and not thrown onto the same griddle where the bacon or onions or who knows what else has just been cooked. And, in keeping with tradition, Eisenberg's has that old-time "just-tell-the-cashier-what-you-had" honor method of payment! I love not having to ask for a check! Where else in NYC do you get to do that? I read the review of the guy below and admittedly, when Eisenberg's is busy, which is typical during lunch, delivery may take a little while. But, give yourself some extra time, 'cause IT'S WORTH THE WAIT! If you're discovering Eisenberg's for the first time, you'll immediately feel just as comfortable as us regulars who have been going there for years. (At breakfast a few weeks ago, I overheard one customer refer to Eisenberg's as being like "Cheers" - with eggs!) Do yourself a favor. Get to Eisenberg's as soon as you can. I know it'll be your newest favorite joint INSTANTLY!

I brought my friends/colleagues -- an Englishman and a Texan -- with me for breakfast Saturday morning at Eisenberg's. I wanted my friends to go to a traditional diner or breakfast counter, the kind I enjoyed when I lived in Manhattan as a student. Though that day the Flatiron building was in shrouds, and Eisenberg's had run out of lox, we thoroughly enjoyed our bialys (halved, perfectly toasted and buttered) and eggs at the counter. The staff were patient, welcoming and kind. Perhaps they could afford to be so, since there were only a few of us at the counter, and it was early. I just wish I ordered an egg cream!

What a wonderful old-fashioned place with great food and service to match. Grab yourself a seat at the crowded counter. I have some of the best laughs with complete strangers here.
