good lobster roll, surly service. won't be back
Lobster Roll was good (not great), but overpriced at $27. Throw in surly & rude bartender (I was eating at the bar) who could barely acknowledge my existence (no greeting, no eye contact, no thank you, no goodbye, no checking on how the food was, and generally seemed put out to have to "wait" on anyone and made me feel like I was bothering him by sitting there ) and you don't have a good combination. The young asian girl prepping oysters in front of me was nice, the only nice thing I can say. I won't be back.

Lobster MeatBalls
I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews about this place on menu pages when on all the others they are mostly great. Well I enjoyed my meal. Went on a Wednesday had these great lobster meatballs, all i can say is WOW! My friend had a lobster roll, fresh and overstuffed, with probably the best fries in New York. We also split half a dozen tatamagoughi oyster "fresh" is the best description and we had a fried oyster slider each, words cant describe how great they are. It was busy, but the service was very friendly and attentive. All must check this place out.

Best lobster roll in town!
Service always seems to be slim in this Nolita spot but what it lacks in staff it more than made up in the form of a yummy lobster roll. Hand down best in the city!

Over priced and bland!
For all the foodies out there, stick to Pearl or Mermaid Inn--- Ed your lobster roll is the most bland lobster roll in NYC and over priced. Cute place and great location, I hope you do an overhaul.

I should have paid attention
I should have paid attention to the reviews below, lamenting the decline in quality of this restaurant -- sad, but true! The steamed lobster is ok, nothing special, but lobster rolls were tough and bland (except for the mayonnaise) -- and everything is overpriced. NB! the on-line menu doesn't reflect the prices currently charged in the restaurant. Both the food and wines are more expensive than the prices listed on their website. Changes in the menu are not on the website menu, either. While other restaurants are offering specials or promotions, Ed's prices are simply increasing. Two of our party of 3 arrived -- we explained that the third person was at an event and would join us shortly; we offered to order the meals for all 3 of us; nevertheless, they would not seat us except at a table for 2, although several empty tables were available (they do not take reservations). It was clear that they didn't care if we stayed or left. Since our friend was to meet us there, we stayed. Our waitress was very nice and attentive -- the only saving grace in an otherwise disappointing experience. In this economy, if you lay out $85 for dinner, as each of us did last night, you'd like it to be for excellent food, good value, and a welcoming atmosphere. Ed's Lobster provided none of these. Does Ed read his reviews?

On the decline
It was great for a while, but like similar places, the good times are over. What was a winning formula - friendly staff, great lobster rolls and pricey but worthy food, has turned into surly staff, mediocre food and outrageous pricing. Need to find a new LR standby.

head of lettuce
when the server brought out the salad, it looked a bit strange, but i couldn't place it at first. i remember ordering the boston bibb salad. the leafy vegetable that was plated looked very much like iceberg lettuce, and not particularly fresh ones ... apparently they ran out of bibb lettuce, but even as i asked the waiter if this is indeed the bibb lettuce on the menu, he replied that it was the fresh and crisp lettuce they use. perhaps i should have restated my point? what's the point of serving food with this kind of substitution? it's disappointing to see that the people at the restaurant think that the patrons will not notice or care.
