    E.A.T somewhere else

My wife and I went there because Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa, recommended the Tuscan Peasant Tomato Soup and the Sourdough Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The soup was lukewarm and the sandwich was disappointing; two slices of cold toasted bread with about an ounce of packaged shredded cheese melted in the center. They should be embarrassed. I would never go back and don't recommend this deli.

Why don't you give minus ratings?

I ordered the turkey special - a hot entree or so the waiter led me to believe and I got curled up, microwaved zapped thin slices of deli meat and some hard green beans with some mayo slathered over them! Inedible. My daughter ordered salmon and got the FISHY taste of an old catch! And each cost 20 bucks! Service quick and uncaring! Bread was good and that was the only thing that was good. I complained but the waiter paid me no mind! They must rip off towners and rubes like me everyday.

$24 for a chicken ceaser salad

definately not worth the price. they charge $4.50 for a shotglass of iced tea!! meanwhile, they have a b rating. don't bother - there are better sandwiches and salads in the area. i have never posted a rating, but this time i had to.

    Ridiculous is an understatement

I saw a neighborhood bakery/deli/cafeteria and walked in and sat down. I nearly fell off the chair when they gave me their paper menu. Prices for sandwiches are in the $25 range. A salad is also almost $30. What the Heck? The place is a joint with a closet size unisex bathroom. The waiter hangs around waiting for you to finish eating fast so they can nail another sucker. I managed to avoid getting my wallet raided by ordering their daily special cold soup for $10 and took off, never to come back. What are they thinking?

    Overpriced

Average sandwich, but the prices are absolutely from another universe! Unless you've won the lottery and want to waste your money and pay literally 4 times as much as the food is worth.

    Really?

i shop at eli's on 3rd and admit it is absurdly overpriced..more than double the other upscale markets...once in a while i splurge and it's ok.. but eli, why do u have to kill your tuna, chicken and egg salads with SO much mayo??? oy

    Over-priced and not worth it

I'll admit my matzah ball soup was pretty edible, but for 12 dollars... not worth it. The chefs seemed unexperienced and the bathroom resembled a gas station bathroom a bit. If your going to pay about 30 dollars for a simple sandwhich lunch... youd expect better chefs, restaraunt cleanliness, and overall a more attractive place. The place is cramped and the food is overpriced. If EAT is going to charge so much shouldnt they hire better chefs that serve fancier food? Yes, they have to charge for the madison ave rent but still they should give you more than a bowl of soup for 12 dollars.
