    fantastic

I enjoyed my dinner so very much. There were 6 of us and all of us raved about the food. We had all come from out of town and this was a really special meal for us. I would highly recommend East of Eighth to anyone that wants a fantastic meal and great value.

    They have to "re-group"

I really do like this place a lot, BUT I have to say my last time there was unpleasant. For "brunch", we had a waiter with the attention of a wombat. We placed our order...and "never to be serviced again" Amen!. After, "brunch" our plates sat in front of us for twenty minutes, (in a mostly cleared out back area) We had to actually get up and get our waiter.... find him and pay our bill. If you’re expecting to get your "complementary coffee" with your meal... Think again. With the "anyway the wind blows staff" EAST OF 8th...lost it's charm.

    All About The Food

Considering EOE is a bar / restaurant, the restaurant was surprisingly peaceful without overlavished decorations and extraneous fanfare such as loud music. Good place to catch up with friends instead of yelling back and forth over loud music and loud patrons. Service was attentive and quick. Three of us had MD crab cakes, meatloaf and fried chicken. Everyone raved about how good their dishes were.

Great place for a relaxing dinner

This place has a lovely, calm atmosphere. Delicious martinis and food, great service and, unlike many restaurants nowadays, it doesn't have a constant din. You can actually hear your dinner companions and don't have to shout to be heard. We tried the pate, duck, mezes platter and pork chops. Tiramisu for dessert. All very good. I would go back in a flash.

    A Rare Find

I discovered this gem a few months ago and have dined there mostly brunch at least weekly. It is very reasonable, very good with a kitchen of variety, delightful servers and an eclectic crowd conducive to friendly conversation. Ken complains about runny eggs. I have never had that problem since I order mine over hard. As for Ken, stay home. As for everyone else go and enjoy.

    Loved it!

Was introduced to this gem not long ago and had the "early bird" dinner. Absolutely delicious. Went back with friends a couple of weeks later (full price meal) and once again the food was wonderful and the service excellent. New Year's Day I came with friends for brunch ... they were jammed but still accommodated all my "fussiness" ... my omelet was perfect. Everyone else had all kinds of Eggs Benedict and all enjoyed it immensely. The service - considering how busy they were - was phenomenal. And the price was right. Including a drink and coffee/tea - $14.95 pp. I'm going back next week with family and would highly recommend this "find" to anyone.

    Breakfast not recommended

The service is pretty good most of the time because the dining area is small. The price is also pretty decent but there are a few problems. The outside dining is alright but I didn't like seeing barbed wire, brick walls, and garbage lying around. Another problem is that the workers don't wear gloves when they're getting bread to put into a bread basket for you. You can see them picking bread up with their hands from the tin and tossing them into the basket right before they bring it to you. Now for the food.. lunch and dinner, the food is great and they come in big portions but when it comes to breakfast/brunch, that's an entirely different story. First the cook puts too much garnish on the food, too many spices, and definitely too much 'sauce'. They literally drown your eggs in their selection of sauces. When it comes to waffles, they come soggy because they were drowned in syrup instead of giving you syrup on the side. I always enjoy cheeses but the cheeses they've served with our eggs always come with a very pungent smell taste not so good. I recommend staying away from anything that may come with cheese. The eggs also come undercooked. Fried eggs come with runny yolks and scrambled eggs are still very wet. The big portions don't make up for it because it ends up being a big wasted portion.. I recommend going elsewhere for breakfast/brunch.
