    A hidden gem

I stumbled upon this place on Menu Pages by searching for another restaurant with the word "lobster" in it and am I glad I did. The place is frequented by Chinese and we were the only Caucasians, but the staff treated us like one of their own. The manager/owner went out of his way to suggest combination dishes we would like and even said that if we didn't like something he would take it back and replace it with something else. We order a huge seafood dinner with lobster (a perfectly cooked one that was beautifully steamed), crab, shrimp, scallops, clams (baby ones that were the sweetest I've ever tasted), shark fin soup and Hong Kong salad (this was lettuce with fruit covered in a delicious white sauce, never had anything like this). It was definitely one of the best meals and well worth the price, about $50 for two people. I've always wanted to try shark fin soup but never did because of the price in other restaurants, so this was an absolute delight, really loved it! They also have an a la carte menu but these combination platters were a great way to try different things. Some came with chicken and meat. There had to be about 25 different combinations! Definitely something for everyone. I'll certainly be going back!

    Unlike Any Other

The restaurant is the best place i've ever been to in the Chinatown community. Food was original and unlike all the other restaurants in Chinatown they offered food that is targeted towards tourists and chinese. The menu features live seafood, including lobster, razor clam, dungeness crab, and scallop. The menu also includes squab, roasted chicken and frog legs. The portions are large and trust me, you'll be happy when you leave. Service was on par with the rest of Chinatown and the atmosphere was homey and cozy with booths.

    Food is GREAT!!!

The food is delicious. They have a large prefixed menu selection for seafood and steak lovers. It is a mixed cantonese style type of food. Always want to go back just because you can't find the same tyoe of food anywhere else. The service is okay. Not too bad like how the other reviews explain...but keep in mind that although the food is little pricey there, it is not a high class restaurant where service is their priority. I feel comfortable there and the food is great. I would go back and I do.

    Fan for years

East Boat is an awesome resturant in the Chinese community! In response a few of the reviews below, the service isn't there to make you feel bad, it's pretty standard; they're friendly and generous people, so unless you speak Chinese, don't go to Chinese establishments if you want a chatty waiter. DO AVOID the fruit salad and spaghetti, but the roast chicken is AMAZING and comes with this to-die-for dipping sauce. It's weird fun that they give out plastic gloves that you wear to pull the little chicken apart and eat with your hands. The steamed razor clams are always fresh and delicious (although you may want to go early as they run our of the clams later at night.) The fried rice is atypically good since they put preserved meats in, which other resturants usually find too expensive to put in fried rice.

    Expensive for what you get

The food was just okay. The portions were small compared to the price they were charging for the diet menu we had ordered. Avoid the fruit salad. It was just a big mixed blob of mayo, fruit chunks, and a few pieces of lettuce and tomatoes. However, the seafood was fresh.

    Like a banquette for two

I was pleasantly surprised. The prices are pretty good for what you get, and it was quite alot. Might be some strange items but the shark fins soup, lobster (steamed), razor clams, Japanese-style scallops, fish fillet with cheese on top, all were excellent. Tea was served with the meal. There were other things, believe it or not--a fruit salad, fried rice, garlic bread and for dessert ice cream or tapioca (drink) or coffee. There is mostly seafood ... but I did see steak and chicken on the menu. The service was fine. We got there at almost six and people didn't start coming in until like, seven. (a Friday night).

Worst place I've ever been to

It was worst. The service was horrible and the wait staff treated everyone like they weren't worthy of being there. Don't go and waste your time.
