One of my go-to spots!
LOVE this place! I go there any time I'm in the area. Some times I even drop off my rent instead of mailing it in just so I can hit up Vanessa's! You can't beat the price for some of the best dumplings in the city! Gotta try the pork & chive fried. The seafood and chicken & basil (boiled) are GREAT!! Just expect to wait a bit for them since they're made as they're ordered. But do not fear! Most everything is as it's ordered since they're always so busy no food gets a chance to sit before being served! Also note that their sesame pancakes aren't like the thin ones you're used to at the local chinese food take-out joint. These are fluffy, really nice and not so greasy. I like the duck one the best. And everything except the noodle soups tend to heat up very nicely at home! And for the sweet tooth lover, you must try the red bean dumpling thing. NICE! Just don't expect the get a seat unless you wait a bit or are very lucky that day!

so yummy
Definitely not the place to go for ambience, but the food was excellent and very inexpensive. Great dumplings and great sandwiches. Highly recommended.

Cheap & Tasty
Found Vanessa's using MenuPages iPhone app. Perfect food for a cold winter day; hearty noodle soups, tasty dumplings and suprisingly good sandwiches.

Amazing Deal
My friend and I split the shrimp dumplings in soup, a sesame pancake with duck and a sesame pancake with vegetables. The "pancakes" are more like sandwiches and are a meal all by themselves. We spent $8 all together and were delightfully stuffed. The dumplings were very tasty and full of shrimp. The sesame pancakes are cheap, filling and delicious. It was packed so we took it to go. Love this place.

Won't go back
the sauces were all watered down, the dumplings were nothing special. Better try a more authentic dumpling place in the neighborhood.

Best Meal Under $5 in NYC
When friends visit me from out of town, I always make it a point to take them by dumpling house. I've converted many a skeptic into a raving fanatic. Food is fantastic - I highly recommend any type of fried dumpling, and don't miss the sesame pancake, particularly with vegetables or duck. There are one or two menu items not to my liking, but these two staples are well worth the trip. If the busy atmosphere is not what you're looking for on a date, I recommend taking your food to go and visiting the park one block to the west.
