Best restaurant in DUMBO
I've lived in DUMBO for 8 years, and this is the first time I've been so impressed by a neighborhood restaurant. I look forward to bringing all my friends here, when they are new to Dumbo. The atmosphere is cozy, and enchanting. The owner and waitstaff are very warm and friendly. I have had the mussels, pasta and ribs here... all amazing and great value. The portions are a good size too. The staff made me feel very welcome and comfortable. I haven't written a review on here, ever, ... but I love this place, and want it to stick around... so I am taking the time to tell everyone how great it is. Go there and enjoy! :-)

Amazing wedding dinner
We had a small wedding dinner at ALMar for about 18 people. We had the most amazing time, with excellent service and great food. The owner's went out of their way to make it a fantastic event. I can not thank them enough for giving us a most memorable wedding dinner for our friends and family.

Almar Regular
I eat at Almar, or Dumbo General as I generally refer to it, at least once a week and sometimes 3 times a week. The food i spectacular and owner is the kind of person you want to succeed. The lasagna and pasta dishes are some of the best in the city, and they often have new and inventive spins on old classics. Where there's fish on the menu, go for it. It's always fresh and well prepared. I haven't had a bad piece of fish there yet, and order a dozen times (at least. Try the whipped ricotta crostini, amazing... I will say I only gave a 4 for service, because they are still working out kinx with new waitstaff. However, if there is a problem they always drop everything to resolve it quickly. Small price to pay for a top notch neighborhood restaurant. One that's well worth the short trip from manhattan. p.s. they make a great margarita or negroni

Delicious
Great addition to DUMBO. I could eat the string bean salad or fennel salad everyday and be happy. I've eaten dinner at AlMar 3 times and the food is delicious without being too heavy. The space is super cool without feeling overdone.

Best Italian in Dumbo
I have watched this resto go from Mexican to American and now finally Italian. And boy did Dumbo need a good Italian restaurant. It came under new management in the spring and I've been there a few times since then and witnessed changes in decor and staff. There were a couple of times when the service was a bit on the slow side, but the last time I was there, not only was the food amazing, the service and staff were fantastic. It was like a 180. I also noticed a new new sign outside Almar changed from Dumbo General Store. The cheese and meat platter is always good, but this is the case in many good New York restaurants. What got me hooked were the crostinisor bruschettas. There was only with ricotta, mascarpone, honey, walnuts. It was to die for. There was a bean salad that was super refreshing and delicious, yet felt healthy. Finally the braised lamb shanks~they melted in my mouth like butter. I was never much a fan of lamb because of it's super strong meaty flavors, but this one was braised and marinated to perfection. Super tender, juicy with a mini-explosion of all the right complex flavors on my palate. My friend said she was having a "food moment" during the meal, the best one I've had to date at that location, better than the dry paninis at Dumbo General, and better than the too cheesy enchiladas when it was a Mexican joint. I think this place has finally found the right chef and management and I hope it stays as good as it was the last time I was there.

Friendliest and Yummiest Place in BK
I have been into AlMar a few times since it changed names and I since I first dined there I am always greeted as though I'm a long lost friend. Everyone makes me feel so welcome! AND...the food is outstanding! I was there with a friend who has several diet restrictions and the kitchen catered to her every allergy without sacrificing flavor perfection. I have always been extremely impressed with the dining experience...and have never felt rushed through my meal, as often happens in our fast-paced city. I can't wait to return!
