    Lame food, excellent service

I just came back from Duke's after looking forward to checking it out for quite a while. Though the draught beer selection was good, the bartender somehow mistook my order of Victory stout for Blue Point seasonal ale (another good beer, no worries). The wait was much longer than we expected, but apparently our buzzer device had failed and the hostess generously offered to buy us a round to compensate for the wait. Our server was also lovely, but alas the food was very meh. My date's chicken-fried "steak" was essentially a breaded Steak-Um, served for some reason with boiled carrots and Potato Buds, and there was plenty of sweet, Hormel-tasting chili and sour cream on my nachos, but little else, including cheese. The burgers or other barbecue dishes might have been better, but in the future I'll probably put my money elsewhere.

Reheated but by no means hot

I used to live right by Duke's. I was so happy there was a BBQ place in the neighborhood. Or so I thought. The dinner fare is very oridinary and I would guess they buy in their BBQ frozen. Okay, not everyone can do good barbecue - especially if they don't do it themselves. But I figured brunch would be easy. How bad could pancakes be? Awful. They either bought those frozen, too, or cooked them hours (days?) earlier and reheated them in an oven. At the end of the day, this is another place that thinks you can throw up honky-tonk accoutrements and music and a southern/bbq/homestyle restaurant. But you can't unless you put some SOUL into your food, and this place is soulless and bland. Sorry Duke. But if you finally get the recogition you deserve, maybe Union Square will get some decent BBQ.

    Excellent BBQ

I've been here once and got the Big D Chilli Burger. Let's just say that it was absolutely out of this world. The burger was cooked perfectly to medium (not m-well, not m-rare), the chilli was quite tasty, some nice crispy bacon and melted cheese on top made this burger absolute bliss alongside a nice cold beer. The fries were quite good as well, though not the best I've had. I also shared some nachos and they were fantastic, just wish there was a little more meat on em, but otherwise really great and nice looking as well. Great casual place to go to with some friends.

    Makes lunch Happy!

I order lunch from Dukes every so often, usually when I'm having a bad or hectic day at work. The food is sooo good that it makes me happy just thinking about it. They use potato bread buns, fries are crispy and yummy and the food.....delicious! So many good sandwiches, each one a divine concoction.

    a new favorite

I was pleasantly surprised with the service and food at dukes. We've been back now a few times and have never been disappointed. The mac and cheese, brisket, burgers, salads, and drinks we enjoyed were all outstanding. This place is underrated- and much better than some of the other bbq places in the city like spankys. Can't wait to go back!

    Very Good Casual Food

Great place if you are looking for casual, good tasting bbq at a reasonable price. Granted it isn't "cheap" but it is nowhere near being expensive. Our waitress was excellent...very attentive. Next time I'm in the mood for bbq, I plan on going back.

    pretty good

as a student i need some good food when i can't get out of my dorm. Duke's has almost always got my back. The food is consistently good and fairly fast on delivery. The price is a bit much, but Duke's has very good food.
