terrific food, not expensive -- love it.
Doyers is terrific. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a cheap restaurant -- some kitsch, but without the harsh lighting that so many other places have. We shared the Vietnamese crepe appetizer -- SO good -- and then each had a huge $5 bowl of noodle soup. The duck curry noodle soup is particularly tasty. A delicious dinner for 2 for $25 bucks -- how to beat that?

Good Food, Great Price!
The grilled meat is great as it is also what Vietnamese food is known for. I had been there for lunch, ordered food, and also went there for dinner. Going there is much better than ordering because the food is best when just done. My kids loved the variety of vegetables Doyers serves for dinner. The restaurant is extremely tolerant of young children, which many parents don't know about. We certainly try to beat the crowd and get there at about 5:30 or 6 pm for dinner so the owner doesn't get too nervous. We normally finish within 45 minutes. I recommended this restaurant to many people. I don't recommend ordering food for delivery because the food just doesn't taste the same.

Doyers Disaster
I don't understand the glowing reviews of this place. Anyone who actually sat down in this place would send the food back. I wasn't so lucky, as I called in an order. Didn't find out how subpar it was until it was too late. The order was $38.70. I would've been better off to give the money to the first homeless man I encountered in the street. When the food came, I gave the delivery man a few bucks tip. He demanded 10% of the check! That was only the beginning. The chicken & pineapple fried rice for $7.25 was probably the worst dish I've ever sampled. First of all, it was a bright orange color. The "chicken" part was a few tasteless grains that could not be identified. There were maybe 3 pieces of canned pineapple in the entree even these were no help, as they were oddly unpleasant in taste. Lemonade beef with pineapple sauce ($5.25) consisted of a few chips of beef, maybe 2 ounces worth with a few tasteless mystery crumbs sprinkled on top. It was utterly devoid of lemon flavor. Grilled beef on thin rice noodle consisted of a few more flavorless chips of beef, resting on thin rice noodle cakes. The latter were the only edible part. Grilled pork chop soup ($4.95) is a dish you can order just about anywhere and get some pleasure out of eating it. But not at Doyers. No attempt had been made to season it there was maybe one minute slice of scallion lying sadly on the bottom of the container. I also ordered satay chicken. Luckily, they left it out of the order, or who knows what that would've been. When I called in the order, I asked for cilantro & mint on the side, something every Viet restaurant gives I was told it was $3 extra. Rice was also extra! The mission of Doyers was apparently to supply the least value for the most money. I say Mission accomplished!

Great food, great value
Very nice food at a great price. The basil chicken was great. Their noodle dishes have all been fantastic so far. I was only slighly disappointed by their papaya salad, but even that was okay. They make some nice ice coffee as well. I have only had take out from them so far, but am planning to visit them soon.

quite literally hidden gem
Get the vietnamese spring roll. i actually like the appetizers more than main dishes. and could fully serve as a meal. if you go for a main dish, however, although everything is good, i go for the thin noodle dishes. but go!

Order. Eat. Repeat.
I love this place. I have ordered delivery from them several times in the last 2 months. I can't get enough of the Curry Shrimp & Squid. I order it everytime and love the fact they don't force rice on you. For something sweet I usually go for a bubble tea or sticky rice and red bean in coconut milk. Today I got the Fried Banana! Oh so yummy!! I recommend it for anyone who wants a tasty meal without breaking the bank.

A Hidden Gem
I can honestly say that Doyers is my favorite restaraunt. It is almost painful to review it because I don't want to give away what feels like a wonderful little secret. I will never tire of trying new things from the enticing and exotic menu, though I've yet to try the frog's legs. My standard app. is the Vietnamese Crepe- a yellow parcel with an almost doily-like delicacy, fat in the middle with shrimp, bean sprouts (and pork if you want). You wrap it in a crisp lettuce leaf and dip in a sweet, vinegary orange sauce. It's an experience unto itself. The funny thing is that if we get there too late in the evening, the chef won't make it ;) Quirks like that just make me love the place more. The pineapple chicken fried rice and vietnamese fish are other favorites. Just be adventurous, and ask the server for advice if you need it. The food is very soulful, and that's one thing that sets Doyers apart from the crowd. The style here is more "home cooking" and the prices are just as hospitable. DON'T MISS the steamed banana cake for dessert. It is worth the trip just for that delectable little banana-leaf-wrapped parcel alone. The dining room is at basement level and is lit by flourescent lights and the warm glow of Asian beer signs and kitschy wall hangings. One word to sum up the ambiance, the food, the experience: comfort.
