A Destination Restaurant on the UWS??
My dinner last night convinced me that yes, Dovetail could actually draw people to this neighborhood, which has been traditionally considered a restaurant desert (although, fact is, things have steadily improved since Ouest introduced fine dining many years ago). The food is, in a word, spectacular: innovative and consistently delicious. The already-famous clam chowder with chorizo is wonderful, and so thick that you could almost eat it with a fork the pork belly and kale appetizer, and the gnocchi appetizer, are both served (mercifully) in small portions, but are so good and so rich that you could easily make a meal of them (which I did). My dining companion ordered the monkfish entree, and was as delighted as I was. The service is also excellent: our waitress was friendly but professional, and made excellent recommendations. The atmosphere is fairly dark, and can get noisy at times, but these are small caveats for a restaurant with this level of food. BRAVO!

Great Addition to UWS
Went for an early dinner during the week. Service and welcome is perfect - food and atmoshpere first class. The menu is rich - but portions are sensibly sized. Fantastic !!!

excellent.
i have been here twice in two weeks (sundays, for the $38 prix fixe). this place is just perfect. the service is impeccable, from the friendly sommelier down to the extremely polite staff who is responsible only for clearing dishes. the atmosphere is somewhat formal, but also quite comfortable, and the food is simply delicious. (i recommend the gnocchi appetizer and the monkfish, but everything else i was able to taste from friends' plates was excellent also). i am so happy to have a place like this on the upper west the quality of midtown/upper east gourmet, but in an upper west side atmosphere. perfect. can't wait to go back.

So Good
Took my bf here for his bday, the food was amazing. For only being open three weeks they run a pretty good show!

so rich....
This is a beautiful room, run by a gracious and talented staff. Except for when the dining room is completely crowded, this is the most professionally run dining room on the UWS, feels more like midtown. The pastry chef is a star, absolutely brilliant. My only wish is that chef Fraser could offer some items that are a little less rich. if you're not used to eating robust/heavy cuisine, this can throw you for a loop. Having said that, it's still a clear winner...

Exactly what the UWS needed!
I have been there twice already- the food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is warm and inviting and architecturally interesting. The brussel sprouts salad with cauliflower puree is unforgettable. I wake up with cravings for the lamb curry and the duck dish I had. And don't think of going without having dessert- you will really be missing out! It really was an amazing dining experience- everyone I went with was also feels the same and can't wait to return!
