Always improving!
I went to Dovetail shortly after it opened, having been a a great fan of John Fraser while he was at Compass. With occasional starts and stops, the restaurant seems to just keep getting better and better. The atmosphere, at least as is most often the case, is humanely quiet. The service is spot-on, always there when you want something. And the food...WOW! My duck skin appetizer was a complex of flavors and textures; my roasted chicken was unbelievably moist and tasty. If you can afford the fare (which doesn't come cheap), you should try it: sooo good!

Disappointing Thanksgiving Dinner
Went to Dovetail for Thanksgiving dinner with my family. What a disappointment! We were a party of 8 and had made a reservation weeks ago. They were a half hour late in seating us, and stuck us at a table downstairs, which had a faint sewage smell. Took more than a half hour to get bread, which were dinky loaves of corn bread. The waiter was impolite when I asked when the bread would be coming. The portions were way too small for the $85 prix fixe. Nothing was outstanding--basically like diner food, with the promised phyllo apple tart being nothing more than canned apple filling in a phyllo shell. Wine very overpriced as well. I was very disappointed and would never go back there.

Disappointing Birthday Lunch
It started with the server coming to our table, no "hello" or "how are you", just "sparkling water or tab water". The Prix Fix Lunch had an appetizer that was supposed to contain goat cheese, there was hardly any of it and it tasted very average. The entree had a few slices of pork with a sauce that, again, tasted very average. The desert clinched it: the couple of small slices of devil's cake tasted like they had been bought at the corner grocery store and the cream on the side tasted like it came out of a tube. The approach of the waitress did not help either: when asked what we thought of the dessert, we mentioned that we were disappointed. Her answer was "this is a Prix Fix Menu". No recommendations from me to anybody, to the contrary.

Very disappointing
After months of reading good reviews we decided to try out dovetail. We sat in the bar area and ordered a la carte. The entrees were so disappointing. My scallops were non- descript and my husband's sweet breads were dry and flavorless. The Food is way overpriced and the service is mediocre at best. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

dont go there if your hungry
Sat for 50 minutes before the amuse bouche and bread arrived which were followed shortly by the appetizer and then it was about 30 minutes for the second course to arrive and then another 30 minutes for main course. Food was good but portions were laughably small. Brought it to attention of the general manager who responded with a flat apology and an offer to take his card for the next time we - unlikely

Return after a few years
Things often just stay the same - perhaps it is too much to ask for change - the reduced sauces are great but once again, the service poor - too many interruptions by inexperienced staff, be alert since if you put your fork down a wait staff swoops in to discard plate - dishes were fair, overpriced, and under-portioned - very disappointing - will probably wait another few years to re-visit.
