good food served with lots of arrogance

The food was very good, I must say it was a delight digging into the meal. Wonderful flavors and combinations. The service was relatively attentive as it should be in a fine restaurant, though my multiple requests for a second cup of coffee were totally unheeded. The wait staff is welcoming, but needs to understand that the waiter is a waiter and that the customer is who is important. The arrogance of the hired help was a little bothersome. It may just be my preference, but unless I am visiting a truck stop I don't want to have my waiter join me at the table. If I were running a fine restaurant in New York I would want the customers treated like I valued their business. The owner hovers at the edge of the wait station with an uneasy glare. I don't mind the oversight of the dining room operations, but after a while you get the feeling you are being watched a little too intently. If this were a local diner I would give them a 4, but for a fine establishment in NYC they need to refine the customer skills.

    Best NYC Food & Drinks

Loved every dish we ordered. The presentation and service were some of the best I've ever had. Might be the best Mojito in NYC.

    Best arroz con gandules

My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night to have dinner. I imagined the place to be larger based on the pictures on the website. Overall we had a good dinner. My steak and shrimp was bland but my boyfriends dish had the best arroz con gandules and pork chop I have ever tasted. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Note: dont sit near the door during the winter or you will be cold while dining since there is no foyer.

    Very popular place

I pass this place every day (I live nearby) and I can say they do very good business. I don't recall every seeing lots of empty tables - it's always busy. The brunch there is fabulous and their drinks are really great. Try it! You won't be disappointed.

    Favorite NYC Restaurant

I been a fan of Don Pedro’s for a while now and I absolutely love their food. Must try the Churrasco and the Mojitos. Yum. Everything always has plenty of flavor, and prices beat anything downtown.

    Salty, stale, with service

My Mom and I decided to try something different for her latest visit to the UES and went with Don Pedro's as it received good reviews on menu pages...we were slightly disappointed. We made a reservation for a Saturday night, but clearly didn't need one as the restaurant was fairly vacant. The space has great potential, but we found it to be very cold with fans blowing, the music was too loud, and there was no sense of intimacy in the dining area. Our waiter was very attentive and sensitive to the fact that his accent was quite heavy, often times making it difficult to understand what he was saying. We chose entrees of chicken and shrimp that both came with sides of saffron rice. Both of our entrees were very, overly salted and the rice although attractively presented left much to be desired as far as flavor. Dessert on the otherhand was great...we chose a dark chocolate cake with mango, strawberry, and chocolate sauce to share. The mojito I ordered was very attractively presented and a generous size, but was not the best I've had and not something special from a Cuban restaurant. Overall, our meal with two entrees, a shared dessert, one alcoholic beverage and tip came to just under $70. We probably won't be back to DonPedro's in the near future...there are better options in the neighborhood although we may want to check back with Don Pedro's in a few months to see if anything has changed since we think it has great potential on a lot of levels!

    Brunch Failure

Saturday brunch and the food was very good. Too bad that the music was a bit loud and upstairs there is no ventilation . Don't bother to order a drink with alcohol because it tastes more like kool-aid. The waiters were uncoordinated and did not give adequate service to the group of 20 customers
