    Great food, Friendly staff

Went there for the first time last night with my girlfriend. Had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. I had the veal parm which was awesome. Fresh and delicious. My date had the eggplant parm which was also good. Our waitress was a doll. Attentive and very friendly. The decor however was a little too rustic for my taste. But overall a good experience. Will go back.

    Stick to pizza

The pizzas here are DIVINE! Tried a few other things, on the menu, none of which were that great but I cannot fault the pizza so I will keep on coming back for that alone. Service is pretty patchy, espeially in a city where it's usually so great.

    Finally done

I have been going to Don G's for many years and it has declined rapidly over the past couple of years. The service, which was once quirky, is now rude and inattentive. The food actually had flavor at one point and came in huge portions. They have cut the portions in half and removed any flavor. Pasta is bland and cheese is flavorless. The prices are ridiculous for the mediocre food. Last night I ordered a large pizza to go (thinking: "how could they "f" up a pizza?"). I was wrong. For $17 I got a cold, oily, unseasoned mess. I wish this place kept some of its original appeal considering that I live so close and the menu sounds good. I am finally done and will never go back to Don Giovanni's.

Great Italian coming from an Italian

I've eaten here several times.. I've also ordered several times (and once or twice it took over an hour to get here...) THAT SAID.. It is WORTH the wait. I still order! I've had other Italian in the city and it doesn't compare. Dining in is a great experience too, have some Sangria, a lil Chicken Parm.. Don't forget the calamari! Very Italian.. VERY GOOD!

    I love it.

Was surprised to see not so good reviews. A friend took me there when I first moved to the city and it's been one of my favorites since then. And I get out a lot. I like the cozy atmosphere, service is good, food is my favorite! It's simple, authentic. Though, I must confess I can never bring myself to get anything other than the penne a la vodka. It's the best I've ever had. I always take people there though and I've sampled their food. Always good. I, for one, highly recommend it.

    Mediocre Food

A recent experience here was most unfortunate: We asked for some vegetables to be substituted for pasta that would accompany the veal piccata, and after the waiter checked with the kitchen, we were told that there would be a $2 extra charge on top of the $15.95 for the dish. An antipasto appetizer was served as an "un-appetizing" chopped salad, and consisted mostly of cubed ham and salami, squares of mozzarella, 2 pitted olives, a couple slices of cukes, radishes, tomatoes and a few bits iceberg lettuce, all for $9.95. But one member of our party ordered a pizza, and was happy enough with it. Our previous experience with them was with delivered pizza, which is sometimes very good, sometimes soggy. The waiter was nice, the place is comfortable enough, and we sure wish it was better because it's right in our neighborhood. They must be clueless as to why their restaurant is empty at dinnertime. We know why now, but only after the fact. Hard to believe that they think this is acceptable in New York, in 2008.
