Dolcino Trattoria Toscana

My husband and I have been there three times, and we have been very pleased with the food service and ambience. On one occasion we had a party there; the owner was very accomodating and all all guests were happy with the restaurant. The lunch and dinner fixed prix specials are a good deal. I'd recommend this restaurant if you want a quiet, leisurely meal.

You can't beat the lunch specials - I eat here every Friday and enjoy the eggplant parmagana or chicken francese --these meals are available in nearby restaurants for double the price at lunch. A bargain at $10.00. Several $6.00 wines by the glass -- the Hacienda Cab Sauv was excellent.

The Prix Fixe Lunch at $9.99 is the best restaurant bargain I have found. Service is excellent and a pleasant atmosphere. This is a great "hang out" place for a long luncheon where you will never be hurried out. Wines are very reasonably priced. Although pasta is not included in the entree (veggies are) -- a side order is modestly priced. You are comp'd a marinated zuccini appeitizer with excellent bread. When I am with a friend who wants a 3 hour, unhurried lunch -- this restaurant cannot be beat. I expect the $19.99 Prix Fixe Dinner is equally excellent.

After reading the reviews I was optimistic I would have an enjoyable meal; boy was I wrong. The smoked mozzarella appetizer was very greasy and the mozzarella didn't even taste like it was smoked. The cappelini primavera only had broccoli and carrots and tasted like pure garlic. The other three people I was dining with did not seem to enjoy their meals either.

I was really expecting a lot more from the reviews and menu. First off, the menu shown online is way larger and cheaper than the one they show for dinner. And wouldn't you think that pasta would come with your meat dish? I ordered eggplant parmigian, which I won't lie, was great, but I assumed a side order of pasta was included! Nope, just some vegetables, which would have been great, had I been served more than a slice of potato, five green beans and two slices of carrots. It's a little sad when I can count on my hand the number of vegetables I ordered.

This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant hidden over on 2nd avenue. I've lived in the area for about 2 years and have been going there regularly the whole time. The food and service are both fabulous and the bill is unbelievably reasonable for NYC.

Loved the food, service proper Martini's and most of all the prices. Here you won't feel "bad" after you have paid the bill. Veal chop is great, as all pasta dishes and fish featured in the menu. Buon appetite.
