    Ok, not great...

The food is pretty sub par, I must say... If you're looking for quality bar food, go somewhere else. If you're looking for some generic greasy mess that some Mexican whipped up in the dirty kitchen, then this is perfect. Decent atmosphere, though I've been to MUCH better dive bars in my day. Service has always been alright, but it's really the kind of place you just want to go drink a few beers and watch a baseball game instead of eat.

    subpar

Fish and chips consisted of batter with some grey gunk inside, with two baked potatoes and some tartar sauce appetizers arrived after the main course and while a touch more palatable were swimming in grease. Beer was watered down and off. Service was polite but incompetent. If you're going to eat here, stick to the chips and salsa if you’re going to have a drink stick to something in a bottle as they don't know how to keep their draft beer. A packet of Tums might be a good option for dessert.

    Good Food

Good place to go to but service is not that great. Food is good and the staff behind the bar make the place!

Just reviewing the wings and atmosphere

This review is only for the wings, as I haven't eaten anything else on the menu: the wings are not good. I really want to like this place but I just can't. It's the only bar in a five block radius but I'll still walk a mile to go somewhere else because A) the wings are horrendous, B) it's crowded and C) it's got a little bit of that frat boy vibe.

Not really DIVEY But MY FAVORITE PLACE

This is a REAL "neighborhood" staple. The best deal in town for drinks. When other places charge outrageous $12-$16 for a drink..they guys and gals will concoct something for under $8. With a selection of beer, scotches, sake and wines..you cannot go wrong at these prices. I normally go to Dive 75 BUT Dive at 96th Street has a WIDE SELECTION of FOOD, WINE and SCOTCHES and does have quite a few VEGGIE dishes..which I tried the veggie Reuben and LOVED IT! As a woman..I feel safe there and as long as I ACT like an adult..I am treated like an adult. This is a real saloon FOR MATURE ADULTS...so don't go there acting cocky, stupid, young or inexperienced. AND friggin TIP YOUR BARTENDER. We get these young idiots who come in from NJ or Staten Island and leave 50 cents for two drinks. Then my bartender is in a bad mood (just what I want when I get off from work!) I think these same idiots listen to 50 cent. Stupidasses..Don't expect to hear 50 cent on their jukebox either. Expect real talent like James Brown, Steely Dan and Roxy Music. By the way, their jukebox is the best in town, real talent exits at Dive 75, behind the bar, in the music AND in the patrons!

    Excellent Food

I've been frequenting the Dive Bar for several years now and can honestly say that the food is better now than it's ever been. It has always been my go to place for a great burger and fabulously saucy wings, but of late the specials have been in a totally different class. Kobe Flank Steak Salad or Sandwich in a bar?! Yep. Available in this one. Wonderfully juicy Grilled Swordfish too. Also try the Poutine. Lee,one of the owners, went to the trouble of sourcing fresh cheese curds for this and it's a delicious cold weather bar snack. I've never had any problems with the staff and several of them seem to go above and beyond the call of duty. Atmosphere? Well the bar's more or less on the corner of 96th & Amsterdam, so don't expect a view of tha Adirondaks through the window, but do expect a mellow, fun atmosphere inside.

    a dive, for sure

went there late one night with a friend, and was less than impressed. the service was alright, until we had our food. she never checked on us again. and when we were ready to go, we realized our waitress had left without saying anything to us and we had to flag someone down just to pay our bill. the food we had (a mix of appetizers) was mediocre. the only plus was the atmosphere: dark and old-school. we might go back some day, try something else and hope for better service, but not high on my to-do list.
