    Weird Place

I didn't really get Ditch Plains. It was like six people had an idea for a restaurant and then they tried to incorporate all six ideas. Is it a brunch place or a snack place, or a dinner place? I still don't know. One thing I'm fairly sure of is that this is not a a place for dinner. The lobster roll was average at best. There really weren't too many actual dinner items. I left disappointed and confused, like I had been tricked by a New York Magazine article into giving this place a try. Can't recommend for dinner, maybe they serve a decent breakfast?

    Probably better in the daytime

First visit here today for a late lunch. I hate crowded noisy hip places at night so I'm sure this wouldn't be for me. Food was quite good. Although we didn't have the prerequisite lobster roll, the fish of the day, arctic char, was perfectly cooked and so tasty I'm going to switch to it instead of salmon all the time. Fried calamari was a generous portion and very good. Best of all was the light not thick lobster bisque, absolutely delicious. My husband had hot dogs sans mac & cheese and couldn't believe the huge portion of (very good) fries that came with, all for six bucks! Sorry to say, some may love that mac and cheese but mine went back unpaid for. So it's got some gruyere on top, big deal, the rest is not cheesy enough and not creamy enough, in fact I told the waitress it was dry. Mac and cheese is my game and if it's not good why pack all those calories on your hips. Service was very very friendly, from greeting to our lovely waitress. Really nice. Prices are good, except $12 for that dry mac & cheese. Nice place for a leisurely lunch.

    Not recommended

I really wanted to like this plains. NYC could use a third restaurant along the lines of Pearl's and Mary's Fish Camp. Sadly, this isn't it. First, let me say that my wife and I LOVE Landmarc (the people who run Landmarc run this place). So we had high hopes. But we have had lobster rolls from Bar Harbor down to Montauk and we think we're aficianados. This lobster roll isnt good. The roll IS stuffed with lobster but the flavor wasnot great. They thought about it too much and killed it. We think we tasted fennel. Whatever it was, it didn't work. The best lobster roll still can be found at Pearl's and Mary's: for those who want to take a day trip, try Lenny and Joe's Fish Tales in Madison, Ct, right on Rte 1. This one is a waste of money...of $23 as a matter of fact. The fried clam app we had wasn't that great either. One more thing: the music here was way, way too loud. We could barely hear each other saying how disappointed we were.

    It's another hit!

I think this restaurant is fabulous. The service was great and the people were very welcoming. I enjoyed the fried macaroni and cheese. I've never tasted anything like it! The Caesar salad was delicious and my cousin enjoyed her mixed green salad too. I had the chicken burger and thought it was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for good food and a great atmosphere!

    Just okay....

Came here for dinner this week with a party of 4. It's a really great looking restaurant, and I love that you can order half-bottles of wine at the bar. Our waitress was so-so, but the food did come out quickly. We shared a dozen oysters for an appetizer which were great. I had the lobster roll, which was just okay. The lobster roll at Pearl is better, plus it has more lobster meat. Also, what was up with the sweet potato chips? They had the texture and flavor of Wheaties. Definitely would have preferred shoe string fries a la Pearl. I didn't think the food was that great of a value. Overall, fine restaurant, but there are better places to get your seafood fix.

    Previews

Tried during previews & a lot was really terrific. The clams & calamari were top notch, the pickles (yes, the pickles) were delicious & original. The fries were ok, better at Landmarc. The clam chowder was over smoked & (this is from a big bacon lover) too bacon flavored. The desserts are so good at Landmarc & while the Little Pie Company is better than most, as a restaurant dessert they are just ok. Some things are priced accordingly, but the chicken pot pie @ $15 is a bit steep for what it is. Wines rock & will blow out like Landmarc. The Murphy's do it right. This will take a bit of tweaking.
