    Why the hype??

The inventive menu names, large variety, great atmosphere, plus the friendly and (mostly) attentive staff definitely made the out-of-the-way locale doable. I wanted to start off with their Nice Tea (blueberry stoli-style sweet tea). They were out. But they have Ommegang Abbey Ale on tap! That’s super hard to find in the States. So I ordered it. 20 minutes later the waitress comes back to tell me they’re out of that as well. Strike two, y’all! But I pressed my luck & ordered the Pom Bomb: a brazilian rum drink. Success! Kinda. Great flavor and decently heavy-handed pour. But it cost $8 for a half-pint glass which was mostly filled with ice. I was done in a few sips. Someone else ordered a Sangria and the Donkey Punch (gotta love the name!). They were both served in a pint glass with moderate ice. The Manhattans others ordered were served in standard-size stemless martini glasses. So I’d stick with other drinks…or chose from their wide selection of draft beer, which is only $6 a pint or $21 for a big pitcher. We decided to get the $20 swag sampler for the table. They say it serves four. They must have meant 4 toddlers. It came with 6 Spicy Shrimp (excellent flavor!), 4 Chicken Wings (very good!), 4 Fried Green Tomatoes (bland batter and the same circumference as the bottom of a pint glass), and 4 deviled eggs (awesome!). We had to order a second. Overall good cuisine but no swag due to the disproportion to the cost. Due to the small app I went big on the main course. I ordered the Ode to Elgin (sausage, ¼ rack of ribs, brisket, cornbread, and two sides – I chose mac & cheese and whipped sweet potatoes with spicy nut topping). Good amount of food for the money ($19). But the sausage was oddly seasoned. The brisket was moist enough but fatty and not super flavorful. The cornbread was so-so. The mac & cheese was bland, except for the cayenne pepper they put on top (to think of it, most of their idea of spicy seemed to be ‘sprinkle cayenne on top’). The whipped sweets had something off with the seasoning…and the nut topping, which was good, was sparse. I did love the ribs, though. And their Wango Tango Habañero BBQ Sauce was good. I left full but wasn’t pleased with what I received for $45 bucks (including tax & tip). I’d go back for a good friend’s function, sticking to the ribs or trying the catfish...but they’d really have to be a good friend for me to bang out that kind of cash for the product.

    Fast Food

I couldn’t wait to check out Dinosaur’s bbq... I had totally high expectations... especially with so many great reviews. I went around 5:00pm... sat @ the bar. Loved the bar, music, atmosphere... was already planning my summer Sundays around this place… but when the plates were put down I wasn't too certain anymore... The food arrived lukewarm... The bartender apologized and said he would take care of it… he brought back the same dish… the two small wings were burnt… not even worth eating… totally disappointing… the ribs were o.k., but they were fatty... try eating that cold!!! The portions were also small... This is nothing but a fast food restaurant!!! Maybe worse...I will try out other bbq restaurants in Manhattan before making the trip here... not worth it... please let me know if it was just an off day because I am totally disappointed... honestly I think fast food would taste better than this!

    Great Food

This is for the person below me who said they've been waiting over 1 hour for the food to arrive at their door. Dinosaur does not deliver food. A slow courier service delivers the food. You live 10 blocks away? Here's a tip for you, Get off your lazy butt and go get the food. Who has BBQ delivered to them anyway? Pathetic! You should be ashamed of yourself. Dinosaur is a way of life! Love it or leave it...

Delivery is the slowest in new York city restaurant history ever

We ordered food for delivery at 654pm and it's 750pm no food and we literally live 10blocks away from them. Lady on the phone said 20mins n it's been an hour

    What a place!!

Went early for lunch on a weds. Seated right away! We started with the wings. They were amazing. Just amazing! I had the Pork Sket sandwich. The meat was delicious. So much flavor in the beef. My friend had the hot lunch for like $6. It was a total steal. The sides of Mac and Beans was great, but the fried rice and Potato salad was off the charts! I've never had Potato salad with that much flavor. Dinosaur BBQ is not for everyone, but there's a reason they're doing the business they're doing. If you want boring sides then head to Hill Country or Wildwood.

Not what it used to be...

I've been meaning to get to Dinosaur for sometime now, and finally did today for lunch. Here's how it went. I started with the SOLO SWAG, which is an appitizer sampler for one. (It comes larger.) $5.95 got me: 4 shrimp - OK, but boring 1 green tomato - very good 1 deviled egg - very good 1 wing - (actually a leg). Excellent, BUT it was a little too close to being underdone to suit me. At the thickest part, it was slightly pink. Chicken can be a little tricky. Overdone and it's dried out; underdone and you die.   Next, the TRES HOMBRE bbq sampler, $18.95. It consisted of 4 items plus two very small sides: Pulled Pork - boring. Most of the flavor came from the drizzle of bbq sauce they'd topped it with. Brisket - 2 slices lean, 2 deckle. Not very good. Hill Country & others have far better. One lean slice was tough enough that I left it behind.   4 Ribs - meh. Nice smoke flavor, but have had better lots of places. They were reasonably tender, but not falling off the bone. Frankly, my local hole in the wall Chinese does ribs just as good at half the price, though obviously a different flavor.   Beans - about 3 Tablespoons. Nothing to write home about. Maybe someone's had burnt ends, but mine didn't.   New Potatoes (3) in garlic butter. These seem to have replaced the Syracuse Salt potatoes. OK, but badly underseasoned.   With one soda, & tax & tip, it totalled out at $35.00 - not a cheap lunch!  The best thing Dinosaur had was the wait staff. They were VERY pleasant and attentive. Perhaps the best thing was they didn't seem to care who's "table" you were at. Ask anyone & it was taken care of. I didn't try the chicken, but if the wings are any indicator, it's probably very, very good. Actually, I wish I'd had that and a plate of eggs. Would have cut my bill in half as well. Dinosaur is a real pain for me to get to. Add in the mediocre food, and I don't see myself going back. A recent review mentions that Dinosaur has changed hands. Perhaps that's the reason for far better reviews a couple of years ago.

    Not worth it

Not worth the wait--have heard great things about this place, but the food did not live up to the expectations. The chicken was good, but the brisket was dry. Didn't enjoy the sides either...skip it and go to Hill Country.
